[Event] Bestmed Tour Of Good Hope

Panorama Tour is 4 days - pretty insane routes lets not kid ourselves and you have rolling closure and the timing is SPOT ON.

Its also a lot cheaper per team of 2.

The racing upfront is as good as any Tour (if not better)

Not sure what to make of this R5000 entry fee. Seems better option to race it which is sad.

Fully agree, I just got back from Panorama. Timing was spot on, SMS a couple of minutes after crossing the line. Only complaint is that the Brondal road is in very bad condition and racing in the rain on that road made it very dangerous. Rolling road closure was superb.

Remember that the issue was not just Mobii's fault there was CSA as well as ASG admin issue that contributed to the over all mess. Blaming Mobii in isolation is a very convenient way to side step the responsibility that both CSA and ASG had.

Racetec could very well do the best timing ever, but if the CSA tannies upload the data incorrectly again, then there would be a mess all over again.

Most of the mess up at ToGH this year was not the single day data like that which Racetec would provide, it was consolidation of that data into meaningful information, like team placements overall GC and time bonuses etc.

So yes, they can time 5 x 30000 entry 1 day races in a row, but if the people take that data and compile it incorrectly, whats the point? Timing a one day race is very different to the logistics of timing a tour. Frankly, from a technology point of view, 30000 data entries (race entries) is not even that relevant or impressive, our DBs run millions of data entries daily each tied to a unique code (chips). Where most of the mistakes come in, is where humans interface with the data. eg: Working out GCs with time bonuses. Having said that, these things can be built and automoted but at a cost.

Thats why I asked for a guarentee in writing that if there is a mess up again (not that it must be timed by Racetec) that there will be compensation. I didnt ask for it in writing that Racetec must do the timing, thats just one of the moving parts.... I want the people who take my money to take responsibilty for the overall delivery of the timing.

I know the guys at racetec and they are clued up and a proper business with proper support personnel, not two guys in a tent.

Multi stage events is not that hard and racetec has done it in the past. It's just a excel spreadsheet really, you add the times for each day and sort by team, voila. Not rocket science. It's the fact that our one rider never got picked up EVER is not the user error.

Yes I agree. But you cannot ignore the fact that MOST of the issues at ToGH were admin related. Your one rider not being picked up is a drop in the ocean of the all the issues.

Dude, I was in the thick of it EVERYDAY, I did these spreadsheets for the guys, each day.

I am NOT saying that Mobii was blameless, I have said several times that they carry some of the blame too and that Racetec should be used, I lobbied for Racetec after 2015 too.

As much as I agree that Racetec is the way to go, it is NOT the silver bullet to this problem.

The admin needs to be spot on for the tech to work in the first place.

PS: I DONT have a friend working at Mobii or Racetec, so I am less bias :P

Maybe that is the reason for the big price increase - Racetec being much more expensive than mobii timnig

extra 300+ per day, hmmmmm don't think so, unless that includes massage by racetec. Maybe we getting more free water bottles and glasses [emoji847]

That's what I am saying, they do all the admin, there is no "admin" you race, you get a result from racetec. No admin between people. If issue you go to racetec.

The system does not care what cat you are in, it gives you a time.

The CSA tannies that caused a lot of the *** at the race registration where the mistakes started were not Racetec/Mobii/ASG/Checkers/Gupta employees, just remember that. If CSA decide to be knobheads at the 2017 event, there is not much that ANY timing company can do about it.

Timing should not be even thought about at registration, as everyone has a chip for the argus, you just pick up your free stuff which will sit in your cupboard at home and get lectured by csa, no need to link anything at registration.

With my R5k, I'll book myself a lekke cozy love nest in the Cape for 5 days and ride on my own and probably get better training and my trusty Garmin won't piss me off with incorrect times.

Maybe work in a few Strava KOMs while we are all competitive and stuff.

Sorry ASG.  You are busy plucking the dam from beneath the duck.

Good luck with that.  Eventually it will catch up.

It shouldn't, but if CSA decides to check every bodies memberships/licenses in order to sanction the event, there is not much Racetec or ASG could do about it.

in that case they should come up with a better process i.e. at the time of doing the online entry, a valid csa license number must be entered before you can continue with the online entry process. Eliminate the hassle of doing the checks at registration & yet another queue to line up in.

Yip, that would be great.

just an FYI racetec online entry system can check is registered with CSA and add to basket of required :P I am biased.

Jeeeez dude, can I not be clearer. I agree that Racetec is the way to go, I don't think I can be be more clear??

But knowing what happened last year, I promise you that there are other things that need to be looked at too, things which cannot be ignored.

Anyway, we agree on this, so let's get Racetec to confirm.

Dear ASG:

If there is a large goodie bag or whatever you call it worth "1000's", why don't you give you an option to either pay full price of R5000 and receive that gift on entry and then also have a entry option that is "entry only" and not receive this.

Personally I don't need all the free items handed out, no matter what it is, I just want to race my bike and so do a lot of my friends.

Make a none gifted entry R2500 - R3000 and the Tour starts looking a lot more attractable.

I understand you have your reasons for the cost but I have been racing bikes for over 15 yrs back when the Giro was a chemfest and League in Cape Town was like SA Champs every weekend and basically every other stage race road and mtb since.

The cost of R5000 for what you are not offering is madness. Especially since your last 2 Tours were in all honesty, a total balls up. You cannot deny that no matter who you blame or try spin it. The onus was on you and your staff.

Use it, don't use it but R5000 and this whole "only 500 riders so get your entry in now 9 months early" isn't going to grab me especially when there is Panorama, Clover, Badplaas and Mpumalanga Tours to race that are a lot cheaper even travelling from Cape Town with more benefits like rolling road closure and timing that works.

Ta.
