If Five Tens are the best flat pedal shoe, then what's 2nd best?

Anyone know when these will be available in SA, and how much they will cost?

Thanks

Anyone have suggested options for the large end of the flat pedal shoe spectrum? Tried on the only EU48 Five Ten that is available locally (Freerider Contact) and it was too small  The 2FO flat is currently not available locally in a EU48. Any other options?

Spez shop in Somerset West offered me a Spez FO2 in EU49 as the 48 is slightly small they did say it was in stock at supplier but not in their store. I just couldn't take out 2.2k at the time(still cant). Was last month btw

Try Giro

Yip, considered this as well. So far no feedback from the stores I have contacted. Will be following up.

Cool, thanks will look into this. The 2FO clip is available locally in a EU48 but I doubt that this could work well on a flat pedal with the cleat recess...although this was suggested to be an option since the 2FO flat is unavailable.

Grip is overrated.

Protection is completely unnecessary.

What you need is PROPER ventilation with quick drying ability.

I'm waiting on the clipless version

I can vouch for these, arrived at Van Gaalens and forgot my shoes so went all the way to the Greek church in these (yes I could have lost a toe). But in terms of grip and ventilation they are insane!!

Not sure if its common knowledge or not but Adidas owns 5.10. So it should come as no surprise that their has been some cross pollination. I'm just pleased the people at addidas didn't mess with 5.10 too much. They still make great climbing shoes and great mtb shoes.

I found this oldish thread because I've run into a similar issue, ie: I want a decent pair of shoes for flat pedals but am not prepared to pay R2500 for FiveTens (yet). Are there any suggestions out there for any more wallet-friendly options?

Short and long answer is no.

There are other options but they are also costly soon as they are classed as MTB shoes.

You can try some of the shoes at Cape Union think another thread on shoe options have them listed.

I currently use old Merrel Chameleon 2's but also go for R1500 odd new (Used to be work shoes but started showing wear and tear)

Dont Laugh...but Squash  shoes are awesome for flat pedal riding.....not stiff No...but grips like you know what on a wool blanket.

If you can find an old classic pair the better as the new one's are bit sporty...but much much cheaper...

Hahahaha - that's exactly what I've been doing so far. I remember skateboarding friends that  also used to buy old squash shoes instead of paying for vans or other "name brand" skating shoes.

I'm still gonna keep looking for something a bit more bike specific though and (if I'm honest) something a bit cooler than my dodgy old squash shoes.
