Hi Guys,

Any thoughts on the uvex range of helmets?

Specifically this one:

I had exactly the same problem as you.

After trying on all entry level helmets at every bike shop in P.E., I found that the Specialized Align helmet was the best fit for my large head.

Cost less than R 600.

I have always found that the Bell helmets fit my large head. I think their large is either 59-61cm or 59-63cm. There are some close to this price, but the Uvex looks good.

By the way what or where is the Chat later store?

When I started cycling someone told me you buy a bike then you buy a helmet(meaning dont skim on the helmet) which makes sense. But my question is this, why are some helmets like rudyP sooo much more expensive than others? If the cheap ones still have to be on the same level, what justifies that big price difference?

Price buys weight (woo), comfort and ventilation.

The rudy's are quite comfortable with that meshy thing and a large is large. They also have a nifty replacement policy if you break one.

But you pay for it.

Proper tests have been done on el cheepo's and over the tops and results show no real difference.

But fashion dictates.

Just make sure standard test have been met as mentioned.

not all helmets are equal

some manufacturers offer return and replacement warranties and some (cheap) ones don't

some helmets fit well and are over designed and protect your melon really well

some helmets are just helmets

remember schumi you only get one head why be cheap about protecting it ,,

buy a recognised brand (uvex is one but there are others)

go to a LBS (support your local bike shop)

ask advice (   " "  ")

try it on first (make sure it fits well and its comfy)

buy the best you can afford (buy it online or ask the LBS to match the online price)

use your head rather than lose it !
