Specialized tyres for stages races

I have always used Schwalbe tyres. Typically Rocket Ron front and rear or Racing Ralph rear. Always the snakeskin versions.

What would similar be in Specialized?

Must be suitable for Western Cape rocky stuff and stage races.

Thanks

Spez make great bikes and horrible tyres!!

The Schwalbes you used before, in snakeskin are in my opinion much better than Spez tyres.

I have found their tread patterns pretty good, but sidewalls and volume and composites well below several other makes. Rather try Maxxis or Geax/Vittoria or stick with Scwalbe, worth the extra money.

Done over 2000km on the Fast Tracks my Spez Epic comp came with. Got my first side wall cut two weeks ago which I repaired with a tube patch from the inside. I was running very low pressures so risk of side wall cuts was great. I'm not sure what mileage you suppose to get out of tyres but unless convinced otherwise, I will most likely replace the tyres with the same. I mainly do XC riding so the 2.0 is sufficient grip for my talent.

but open to other options

All of the above are good. The Butcher is even better! They do tend to stick a bit on tar, but that helps with resistance training..

Using Purgatory front and Ground Control rear for trail riding. Immensely better grip than the Maxxis Ardents my bike came with. Bike now goes exactly where I point it - the Ardents had a vague feeling.

For XC riding in dry conditions the Fast Track is a quicker rolling tyre and the Renegade even quicker but Renegade does not have enough grip for my liking - used one a few times then took it off.

Considering buying a Camber Evo so it has the Spez tyres on already. Bike store will give me the option of swopping tyres around as part of the purchase.

I'm not a big Spez fan,but last year I bought a second hand (90% tread) Spez Roll-X tyre that I fitted to my front rim.I am really surprized as I have done +/-3000km on this tyre and still have about 30% tread left.I am now considering replacing both front and back with Spez tyres when the time comes.

I currently run a purgatory on the front but the butcher does look awesome.

andrewgowans: aim for the GRID casing in the Spez tyres...quite a bit tougher than the standard casing.

Camber EVO: Butcher up front with the Slaughter out back. Possibly Slaughter for summer though...not sure it will enjoy the moisture of winter though

I started off with just a Butcher upfront. Was very impressed, so did the same on the back. The Butchers work extremely well in the mud vs Fast Track, Captain, etc..
