Specialized tyres for stages races

You all know I don't point the big s brand, but I have really enjoyed their tyres.

Used the renegades, fast tracks, ground controls and the purgatories.

They all did their jobs well, priced very competitively and last freaking long.

Only used control casing and would certainly try and get the grid casing for the rear tyre at least.

Have a few top 10 Strava descent times so I don't dawdle.

I have Ground control and Fast track on.

Never had a puncture in 120 hours.

1.7 bar in front and 1.8 at the back @ 90kg.

I stick to what works.

Fast trak and ground control........ I've even still got a Captain. Control casing, at under R500 for a tubeless tyre, is more than competitive. Amazing tyres all round.

Bought a Fast Track and Ground Control last week that I'll be testing in weeks to come. Initial feeling is that this tyre combo have more grip at higher pressures vs RaRa/RoRo combo.

Had a fast track and renegade combo for berg and bush and even though day 1 was wet, I had no issues with grip. Also did sani with 2 renegades.

Now running purgatory front and ground control back. Loving the extra grip on the really technical stuff.

Funny thing is,the ground control on the rear always felt a little sketchy to me on the rear, yet on the front it was good.

Those renegades are actually very impressive tyres.....even in the wet or with fair wear on them.

Agree with Hairy. I used to run Racing Ralphs, but the prices are getting out of hand. Put an old set of 1.95 Renegades that were lying around; that came on my Epic; and was really impressed with their all round ability. I have worn them smooth, and have just replaced them with 2.3 on the Cotic (@R495 ea). Looking forward to the maiden ride tomorrow. On the Highveld, as mile munchers, I dig them.

Been using Ground Contol front and Fast Track rear for a couple years now.

Grip well, last well, roll fast.

Tried all sorts of combo's in the past, have no plan to change from this.

The specs tyres are really good value,I have done Berg and Bush,Pe Plett and many races with the ground control and really impressed.

one thing you can buy in a Spez shop without breaking the bank.

Purgatory on the front is Nice.

Yes....awesome for a trailbike. I have one on my TBLT. It grips nicely and it rolls quite well but the GC rolls faster.

For dry and hardpack on a stage race though I think I would go with Fast Track 2.2 front and rear. In softer or damp conditions GC front and either GC or Fast Track at rear.

I used ground control front and fast track rear on epic this year with no problems at all. Not a single puncture. Both control versions
