FAT Bike - WTF?!

Ok...I'm looking for some answers here. I'm currently advertising my fat bike in the classifieds section.

9ZERO7...great brand, with excellent components. Guide brakes! SRAM X7 - X9

Thus far, only one offer on the bike...and the guy went quiet as soon as I engaged with him. Cycle Lab is selling this bike at R25 - R27k (with lesser components). Mine is new btw...as in never been ridden...not once. Ever.

I'm selling for R15 500. Why is no one interested in this thing?

Is the economy that bad at the moment, or is the Fat Bike fad already past!!?

It hasn't snowed yet and no chance?

Did the fat bike fad ever really take off in RSA??

and based on these, why you selling?

I already have one so that's my excuse.

Love it by the way. Just had it on the beach in the North Coast and what fun to ride on the sand. Planning to do the Dusi2C on it as well.

I also have one already otherwise I would have bought yours. Fad or no fad they are in my opinion, the most "fun" bike to ride, whether it's sand, road or trail (preferably muddy ones!). That being said, there aren't a lot of people who will spend 15k + on a "fun" bike and those that can are buying specialised fatty's for the most part. I have a trail bike and a Fatboy and I probably ride the Fatboy more (to the shops, friends, around the neighbourhood) as, firstly it's just more fun, and secondly it means I don't muck up an expensive trail bike by riding it on pavements and tar. No suspension to service and no need for a hundred upgrades like with a trail bike (except going tubeless). It's the perfect second bike and the fact that you can take it down to the beach every now and again is just a bonus.

I was in a specialized dealership last week. I over heard a salesman say they cant keep up with demand and they have fat bikes on back order.

I dont know if it is true or just a sales pitch.

I test rode one in Knysna, great for cycling up stairs etc. However, the concept of trying to fix a puncture (or more specifically pumping the tyre with a handpump thereafter) kills this one for me.
