Brad Mulder>Public Servant News Network Eastern Cape

A young Port Elizabeth woman was killed and her husband seriously injured when they were hit by a truck while mountain biking on the Witteklip Road near St Albans Prison in the Rockland area this morning.

...

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the accident happened at about 09h15 this morning. Labans told AlgoaFM News that 31 year-old Sonika Kensley was airlifted to Livingstone Hospital in a critical condition. She succumbed to her injuries a short while later.

Labans says her 29 year-old husband is in a serious condition in hospital and is aware that his wife has passed away. The young couple is from Greenshields Park in Port Elizabeth.

Labans says the 39 year-old truck driver is also from Port Elizabeth and was arrested on the scene on suspicion of drunken driving. He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in court tomorrow on charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol. via Algoa FM

Very sad and on a route we as mountain bikers use a lot to get to our local plantation. Husband has been discharged. Another young couples life together cut short. RIP.

Tragic. My thoughts and prayers to Sonika's husband and family. Lord, please comfort them in this difficult time. Too many lives lost on the roads. I hope that the justice system does not fail Sonika.
