Hi Guys,at Bicyclegear.co.za we have a product called the ReSkin Bike Patch. It is a plaster, made in Belgium, and uses a silicone adhesive which means it will not "wax" you when you take it off. It is also re-useable 3 to 5 times...

The idea is it puts a barrier between you and your chamois/insert. As good as your bibs are, as they get older or if they are not a good fit, the lateral movement causes the sores and chafe.

put on your bibs, grap a hand full, apply to contact area where you have the most issues, go wash your hands, go ride your bike

If you wear bibs - then rub the rest on your boobies... :) serious.....

Fine for short rides - longer and wet rides.... no use at all - and if you put enough on it foams through your shorts.... not good...

Ask Rouxtjie and Chukky, they are the experts. Personally I don't ride far enough to justify the use of anything.

Best skin cream in the world!

you don't need bum cream...  if you start developing a saddle sore of some sorts, just apply a dab of zam-buk.

true story, it works!

Whether you need it depends on a number of factors: skin type, clothing used, conditions and length of the ride,...

It's meant to be used for two reasons:

- chafing (also nipples, feet, armpits when running/swimming)

- anti-bacterial where you collect sweat

It prevents chafing by changing the friction between your skin and the clothing.  This isn't usually a problem when the skin is dry.  It's a problem when the skin or clothing becomes wet through sweating or rain.  Shorter and drier rides are less likely to need cream.

Some chamois cream is meant for very wet weather riding, and has a consistency closer to vaseline.  Some is meant for really dry weather riding, and is much more liquid.  In SA, you're unlikely to need the wet weather stuff often.

Some other products that will work are udder cream, some swimming and surfing products, and some running products.  Be careful of vaseline: it's a problem afterwards when washing clothing.

Stickers are becoming more popular with runners in shoes.  They do the same: change the friction between your skin and the sock.  Some are meant for the skin, some for the shoe.

Chamois cream doesn't have to cost much, but it can.

No amount of chamois cream is going to fix the wrong shorts or bad personal hygiene.  Fix those first.

Also be careful: "saddle sore" doesn't mean the same to everyone.  Do you have sore skin or an infected boil?
