I just sold my Trance and plan on a Pyga oneforty 650.

Where would you guys recommend I start? where is the best place to source a frame for cheapest and then how do I decide on the components?

I was thinking to start of with a cheaper groupset, SLX pref and do a 1 x 10 with a cheaper fox evo suspension too....later il move those up.

Either the Trailhead or Sprocket and Jack...

Both equally useful and will go out of their way to assist you.

What he said, you cannot go wrong with either of these two. Best shops in Jozi imho

Sean aka Robodog at Trailhead.

Yep. RoboJedi. But do yourself a favour, and stay away from the Fox Evo stuff... Far better to go Revelation on a build like this. Fox 32's are a bit noodly at that travel!

Another option is the MRP through Bibi...

Agreed....

Just out of interest, why a 140 as opposed to the 120? The 140 you need to stick a Pike on or a really burly fork whereas you can run a 140mm revelation on the 120 and it still "feels" like it has more to give at the back end than the trance even with 20mm less travel due to the floating stock design. I was torn and went with the 120 and couldn't be happier. I highly doubt you'll ever wish for more travel than it provides on a SA trail. It may be worth waiting for the new XT 1/11 or Sram GX groupsets due to be released in a couple months. The Trailhead is a great spot as mentioned above and perfectly located on the spruit for a test ride.

CWC has some crazy deals on shimano groupsets.  I think R5k for a complete SLX 2x10.  Shifters, brakes, derailleurs, hubs, casette the whole bang.  XT is going for 7k I think.

and remember to put on a PIKE!!!!

awesome bike, enjoy the build and have fun!

Very expensive to plan on buying low cost suspension now, only to upgrade it later. I would rather compromise elsewhere and go all out for the best suspension you can. Getting it right 1st time will be cheaper in the end.

My 2c.

Afaik the OneForty 650 is designed for 150 - 160mm travel in the front. The 'Forty' is the rear travel. Their website says 150mm.

Buying Fox evo stuff now and already planning on upgrading stuff that you don't have yet sounds like a terrible idea. It will cost you thousands in the long run and will ruin the bike in my opinion, both performance wise and in aesthetics... OneForty + Pike is a perfect match.

It sounds like you want 140mm upfront and in that case the OneTwenty with a Revelation would be my pick.

SLX stuff is fine. Perhaps brakes you can go Deore as they are plenty good and save a few bucks. Perhaps get XT crank and 32t NW which you can keep forever. Later in the year you can upgrade the rest of the drive train to XT 11 speed for about R3k.

What wheels you have in mind? They can be pricey! Friends have Flow Ex on Novatech hubs and they are holding up very well.
