Hi All.

So I am in the market for a new road bike, and willing to spend up to R30k max.

What would you recommend and why ?

Something that's suited for climbing and needs to be comfortable on longer rides of about 100km.

So far I have only looked at Silverback, the Space and Sirelli range, but open to any suggestions.

I know the second hand market has a lot on offer but prefer buying new when spending that kinda cash.

thanks in advance

Vivek

3ok will get you a whole lot of Silverback. Great value for money and nothing wrong as a first time purchase.

The new paint jobs (if you can call it that) on the Space 1 and Sirelli are hot.

1. Get a bike fit for comfort.

2. Get a Shimano 105 at least.

3. Get good shallow (not deep section) wheels if you want to climb.

My mate has a Cube Peloton with 105 11speed group. Very nice!

Don't get hung up on brand new.  A late model second hand is perfectly in order and way more bang for the buck.  Also, ultegra should be the minimum with full carbon.  You'll be good for a number of years before wanting to upgrade.

Cannondale CAAD 10 105 and some decent wheels.

wise words but I'd like to think there's plenty change from R30k there.

My current Merida Reacto is a 56cm.

Edited original post: would prefer buying new as I really don't want to run into issues with cracks on a carbon frame etc etc.

I don't mean to sound rude but throwing brand names around doesn't help much. Name/Model is what I would need, along with components which I am looking at 105/Ultegra and the ideal wheelset to complete the package.

Been looking at the same price mark for a while now and honestly don't find any of the carbon bikes to be great and even though they have 105 it's matched with a cheap shimano crankset. I'm leaning towards a cannondale CAAD 10 ultegra. Under 8 kgs for an alu bike and it has nothing but great reviews.

Here is one review of the CAAD 10 - http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-cannondale-caad-10-105-14-47948/

As for wheelset, id go with a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elites. Last time I saw, was retailing at CWCycles for 7k. I had a set and I was weighing 100kgs, it stayed true and rolled like a dream after about 6000km. Only reason I sold was to get a set of carbon wheels. Wish I had kept the Ksyriums
