I don't know why you keep in comparing it to the Trans Karoo event (247km), it's not the same distance(162km), you should compare it to the other 100 miler event, the one that cost R500 odd less. Just because you've been fooled into paying to much don't try and get the rest of us on board with the idea.

The link between this and TransKaroo is the route/race director and the people organising the event - they are the same people.

I do hope that there is enough interest that this becomes a fixture every year. For someone like me that ride solo there are few long distance events to chose from.

You sound like an expert, can we chat so we can maybe have a look at my financial portfolio?

HDW - Please lay off the trollin, it's getting a bit tedious. Are you trying to get yourself banned from thehub?

No, not at all. I'm actually just replying to someone that is trolling by trying to draw out attention based on his personal convictions which he could have kept to himself.

The 100 miler is a circle route around the Swartland. This is one way ride through the Cederberg, obviously the logistics involved are a lot more complex, thus the price is higher. To be honest I opted vor the Hexrivier MTB on the day of the Swartland 100 miler because it is more scenic.

I agree, also a little worried about the number of entrants. Besides this hub thread, I have seen little advertising or talk of the race. The Facebook page hasn't been updated since the middle of August. I was deciding between this and the Picketberg race. I don't want to spend the whole of Saturday on my own slogging on a gravel road while everyone else is hammering incredible single track in a different race... Oh well, entry paid and accommodation booked weeks ago.

Spoke to the orginiser yesterday, there about 100 entries.

They sound very excited, hopefully it would take off in the years to come.

The route is very scenic - I still have no idea how tough so in my mind I have no ideahow long it could take. Anything from 8h to 10h?

I usually average about 20 km/h on a TransKaroo Upride that has the same amount of climbing as the Ceder 100 miler, granted the Ceder packs 80% of the climbing into the first 100km so it will be more demanding. It would be safe to bet on 8 to 10 hours.

Personally I am very eager to ride it. I felt pretty good after Backsberg and that was 1600m packed into 40km, I don't think climbing will be a problem.

Thanks for the update dirtmaster. It is good to know they have a fair amount of entries.

I was originally aiming for 6.5+ plus hours, I may need to reevaluate that... I did the AMA 100miler in 6:17 but that was only 2200m of climbing, and quite large groups that worked well together.

You reckon? Will plan for that then. Sorry you won't be riding, I know you were looking forward to this one.

yeah totally gutted, hindsight is a bastard! But you all must have a blast & hope the event is still around next year.

Sub 10h would be great for myself and my partner

The most I have done is 98km with 1 600m of climbing - 5h20 (3rd leg of 36One Challenge)

Was "stukkend" after that, however not as fit as now

Aiming for 9hours = 18km/h, sounds realistic in my standards

Cannot wait, scenery will be amazing

Good Luck to everyone riding!  It was on my shortlist but things didn't work out in the end....

On the price issue it will be good to get everyone's feedback.  Always a tough one for organisers to find the tipping point where you get enough entries at a price that will cover the costs.

I really hope the event is still around next year.  Cheaper would be nice, but not a deal breaker - as long as the feedback indicates it's worth the money.
