My biggest gripe is when a mtb'er rides on the tar when there is more than enough dirt next to the road.

that's how you tell if someone is a dirt-roadie or true mountain biker - give them the choice of single track / gravel next to a tar road, or riding IN the road.

AMEN to that!

some heavy stereotyping this. What did roadies ever do to you?

I did not mean to stereo type guys. This is what I heard from observation. That's why I used terms like "Mostly". I over hear them talking or just ask them straight out and that is the most common answer, that they are actually roadies. So no offence meant. Will try be clearer in my future posts.

But in all honesty, both types, be it a dirt muncher like myself or a roadie... Both sides have a**holes and there will probably forever be a rivalry between the two.

And I have had some bad experience with roadies, but I have had the same with mountain bikers. What you ride isn't the issue, the person usually is.

So again, apologies for stereotyping as it wasn't meant.

no TRUE 'roadie" would ever be seen dead even standing too close to a mountain bike soooo...................

you shouldn't generalise about what you think you know (and obviously don't) about 'roadies"

"evolved forward to  mountain biking" HA  only golfers evolve forward to  mountain biking

That was just to poke a bit of fun.... I prefer MTB so its the same way a roadie would say I have evolved if I buy a road bike for the collection...even if it is just to train to be better at the climbing thing. (even the pro DH guys do it)

This seems to be an issue on ANY mtb race. What my buddy and I have discovered is that the riders who do this (MAJORITY of them), race past on flats and hills, are roadies that have finally evolved forwards to Mountain Biking. Why don't you get fitter and faster and get to the downhills before them?

That is what I am doing!

Don't enter and ruin every one else's day. Why? So you wannabe mountain bike gods can have all the fun? Maybe you should consider DH as there are no flat and up-hill parts for you to get your ass kicked...

DH is actually the end goal.

And all I meant is, a Mountain bike RACE is not a duathlon, it is not a place to walk your bike. If you don't have the skills to ride even the simplest of obstacles, you are a danger to yourself and others... I have seen many a crash coz of guys walking obstacles, in the middle of the track, where there are blind rises or corners and then getting hit by people who actually ride. Leaves both badly hurt and ruins both peoples days.

agreed. if you are that bad at off-road technicalities, a race is hardly the place to now practice and hope to get better. practice at home. do the race when you dont have to stop and cause a 7 rider pile up.

Just to be clear: A real bike is a commuter. All the rest are toys - so settle down.

Another big no-no: discarding wrappers anywhere but especially on trails.
