Retailers selling on Classifieds

From what I understand commercial members/businesses that advertise in the classifieds, like autostyle etc have to pay to be able to do that, not free for them but free for us.

whats worse if stuff that's sold and doesn't get deleted but they rather edit the ad to say its sold.

I hear you but it also is nice as an idicator of the market value of the item/s.

This helps the seller but also potential buyers.

Just recently I was looking at ads for a specific bike and the prices varied from R23K to R32K for basically the same specced bike.

Knowledge is power they say.

Nothing wrong with the system the way it is.

I sell stuff, buy stuff, doesn't matter to me if retailers are mixed in.

Some of them offer great prices too, in fact just yesterday I got a killer deal on a Garmin from Autostyle.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Agreed, some of us just like to moan ;)

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback on this issue.

Retailers using the Classifieds is an issue that has been cropping up more an more of late. We do have plans in place to address this, but unfortunately due to capacity constraints at HQ the development and implementation of these is taking far longer than I'd like.

However, be assured that we are working on it and post Tour de France we will see some positive changes implemented in this regard.

While retailers using the platform can add great value for all, the current scenario is not a sustainable one. We will be putting certain limitations in place for retail users along with better separation / filtering (on mobile too!).

Thanks and regards,

Matt

I don't know if anyone else is feeling the aggravation I am when searching through the classifieds on TheHub? I seem to come across the same retail shops advertising more and more and you have to go through a whole bunch of them before getting to what hubbers are trying to sell.

My suggestion - and I did mail TheHub but got no reply - is to have a separate section where retailers can advertise/sell their specials and keep the classifieds sections specifically for hubbers trying to sell their things.

Anyone else feeling the frustration or am I just pedantic?

Cheers

Both can co-exist...

As a buyer, one would like to see what all markets have to offer and compare prices

In any event, you should be undercutting the Retailers anyway, thus whats the fuss...

People who dont mind to purchase unwanted new or pre-loved items from individuals can easily see if deals are relative or not

In the same token, if you missed a bargain but really would like to get the same thing, why look further

If you'd like your advert to stand out, purchase some credit and place your ad where you think it belong

The Hub's advertising rates are very reasonable

What is also strange is where dealers use a different name on the Hub to their real name. For instance Cycle Fanatic seems to be Bridge Cycles in Diep River. They also never respond to queries regarding the bike in the comments after listing it.

I agree with Rat in that both can co-exist. This creates a healthy market in that it also help hubbers from charging a reasonable price for used goods. As well as preventing scrupulous hubbers from over-charging. I'm sure you have seen some have double/triple the price items that don't even come close to value as what is charged? So having some retailers with correct retail value easily access is in actual fact a bonus? Just my two cents. ;)

Honestly got better things to annoy me. People advertise, people buy or don't. If they don't then people will probably stop advertising. If people buy it's a useful service.

There are heaps of people advertising stuff I don't want to buy on the hub but I'm not going to  crack the sh*ts about it.
