No man you're doing it wrong. Don't train for the Atta, I need your entry!

NEVER! First one for me. Planning a further four consecutive rides there after.

You should look at fat as your training fuel :)

At one point I lost 12kg's of it, and rode worse up the hills. So you may be onto something there, actually! Have quite enjoyed the process of figuring out what works for me.

Unfortunately, my book, the 'Common Bloody Sense Diet and Training Bible for Dummies' didn't sell well. Don't know why...

It depends...

  1. How long have you been cycling
  2. And what your goals are for pioneer

I've done Pioneer twice without any base. If you have limited time to train then skip on the base training. I hardly ever do any base training because I don't have time.

But I've been riding bike continuously for the past 5 years so I guess I've got a built in base :-)

Some of my most memorable rides was done doing 'base'.....

Coffee. Open road. Long chats about life. No hurry to get home.

that's me. No wife or kids. Actually I'm the only kid in my house. Woooohooo

Time - most average and more or less active peeps can do a 3 hour ride without too much specific training. When you take it over 5 hours and into the 8 hour region, that base training, the tits, will pay off. If you want to do it a few days in a row, you better have those base miles stacked pretty wide or you will suffer.
