Are you buying new, as a new Anthem has a lifetime frame warranty for the 1st owner. Not sure about the other two, but that alone will make me choose the Giant.

The Giant suspension is more efficient and bobs less in the open and trail settings, but contains more bearings that need servicing i think.

I have the Anthem 29er and can change my front and back suspension settings without looking down, you get used to it and eventually do it easy. So that negates the twinloc lever for me. You will spend 90% of the time in trail in any case and flick to open for gnarly downhills.

After much reading and many deliberations I have decided to pull the trigger on an Anthem X  29er come 2016. This is going to be my first outing on a full-sus, and from what I have ascertained up till now is that for a mixture of cross-country with some trail thrown in, aka marathon riding, the anthem rules the roost, supposedly. I will have to try it out for myself. What I will change though is to some wheels that will comfortably be able to handle a buffalo like me ( +- 110kg ) who likes to throw the bike around on single track, as well as a dropper post for those hairy trail descents.

As for the Garden Route where I hail from, I think the Giant is the best option to go with, honestly. With mainly dirt district roads with some trail action here and there, the anthem is tops.

Just remember that the Crest wheels have a weight limit, if I'm not mistaken it is around 85kgs.

That is true as I was looking at purchasing the Crest Wheels and was advised to get the Arch EX due to the weight constraint..

2016 Specialized Camber Comp Carbon. Nuff' said.

Yes, at double the price of the Giant and been a carbon bike, it will start to crack etc after 2-3 years. All my mates who have bought carbon bikes (spec, cannondale, ...) all have issues after 2-3 years of hard riding.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Do they ride like tonsils? Chances are they would have wrecked an alu frame as well, and sooner. If all carbon frames cracked within 2 - 3 years, there wouldn't be a market for them.

there is a alu version which is a little cheaper but still more than the three bikes OP is looking at. Carbon shouldn't crack that easily unless you really give it horns and I mean reaaaally abusing the bike

true dat...

riding buddy of mine on a carbon fsr stumpy 29er now for a few years. buffalo class and not afraid of throwing the bike around, jumping everything. At first I was skeptical but the bike is still in very good nick. (have to add he doesn't take good care of it but the stumpy just keeps on going)

No mate, they are not riding like tonsils. They coming in the top 20 in the Epic.

Speak to the mechanics on the Epic, you will be amazed how many frames they replace, its actually nuts.

okay, if they're riding the same frame day in day out on the training regimen required to place top 20 in the epic, then no wonder the frames are showing signs of abuse. That's what a normal rider would put out in more than 10 years. ANY frame would have problems given that level of use.
