Ok thanks my heart rate mite drop because I did a little cardio workout before I took my heart rate

Definitely. If you measured it within a few minutes after a mild workout it would still be elevated unless you were extremely fit

Try first thing in the morning before moving around

That'll be more reliable

I'm 17 mate. Riding in the elite junior peletons. My max heart rate is abnormal. Sitting at 211 beats. However my resting heart rate is 72 beats. Aim for 35% of your maximum heart rate and you should be good . You still young so don't stress about this kinda stuff. Focus on your power out put

Dalton I'm a VERY old toppie (60yrs) - when I'm well trained and ready for the Argus my resting bpm is at about 48 (I'm lazy so a higher bpm would be like too much work) At guns blazing and near to death my bpm is at 195. Normal resting (unfit) bpm is 60.

At your age aim for about 60 to 65bpm and when you get there - take the next step.

It will take some time - your body needs to adapt. DO NOT try and do it in two weeks.

Also google is your friend - plenty written about it.

V12 is your man here.

I'm impressed!!!!!!

For someone 60ish to get to 195bpm is impressive, perhaps even foolhardy!

Obviously what Garmin terms a a LIFETIME ATHLETE.

My quack can't believe I can still get to 185bpm, with resting around the mid 50s mark.

ps 65ish.

Hah... looking at my stats you guys are gonna think I'm probably about to die.

My RHR is 90-100. Standing/walking is 100-120. A light effort puts me at 150-160. Hard is 170-180. I've never seen my HR above 184 and it's very easy for my to get there... I feel completely wrecked afterwards though.

I've been hooked up to an EKG in the past and the result was: completely normal. I'm 31, have a normal BP of 120/80, have been doing the gym/training thing for 10 years now and have never been able to figure out why my HR has never improved.

Bio koneticist measure 57 Bpm after 3minutes bench stepping to metronome. Resting HR when waking up is 55 Bpm average. Highest heart rate when climbing full gas is 187 bpm. Lowest my HR ever measured was 47 in teen years. Doctor called me a zombie.

Your heart rate is also a very personal thing, some have high hearts and others have low. Yes it will lower when you get fitter, but everyone's bodies function differently.

In all honesty, there is no real point comparing your heart rate to another person's. What you could do is measure it over a period of time and monitor how yours fluctuates

First thing in the morning.

Before and after training.

Before bed.

Then if you are training to become fitter and stronger, you should start to see a pattern develop where your HR begins to lower as you get fitter/stronger. This will allow you to see how you are improving personally.

You could also set a route on your gps (if you have one) and then ride it over a period of time, trying to keep cadence, power etc in a similar range, and monitor your HR over the different rides. Yes, there will be external factors that will affect the HR readings, but that should be a good indicator of how you are improving, and will show you where you need to expend less or more energy/effort.

But I'm not a doctor

It differs. I'm 32 resting is 60 and Max is 206. Will average close on 180 for a 3 hour race.

I`m 47, 88kg my resting heart rate is around 69-71. Ave when pushing it for 2-3 hours its 158-165, Max 188-205.

This is according to Polar over a 3 year period. My fitness is good and I can ride for hours @158-165 bpm.

We cycle in groups and my heart rate is an Ave of 20-25 beats higher than the other cyclists. Blood pressure is normal.

Tried to get it lower but eish, can`t seem to do it.

Age 49...resting heart rate is 38-42. Max I see on the bike is around 164. the highest I see when I run is around 200 but I think this is either an error on HRM OR a fight or flight syndrome as it quickly comes down to around 130 running at normal pace.

heart rate is low, but I tend to run out of puff ar around 160 ..so it is a personal thing

Edit: Just to add, I aint a super fit chap by any means..
