How to "XCO-type Drop Offs"

Recommended Posts

Theres about 3 of them!! The "drop of a root" one (with lekker intimidating chainring bites), the "drop down a rock" one (which, I'd rather not do at a faster tempo), and then there's the set of stairs.

I guess I'll find some easier stuff to try before going to coach route.

Also, will bring a video camera along this coming Saturday...

Commitment, gewig terug, liggies op die agter briek, bitter min indien enigsins voorbriek. Maag op die saal. Fokus op die exit en jou lyn sal self daar uitkom.

Naah, wait until someone like James Reid and Mathys Beukes rails it next week.

I can't wait to see them shred the track at nationals on Saturday.

Dit gaan loop soos 'n v8 in 'n getaway kar in Voortrekker straat.

That sections reminds me of the beginning of vasbyt in Tokai!

The steps remind me more of the steep section after the left hander on 'My Roots'.

Which has now upset me. I'm off for a sulk.

This is what dropper posts are made for.

Also the newer mtb saddles have shorter front sections, sometimes with a downturn so that your shorts are less likely to hook up when you try to move behind the saddle

My fear isn't getting behind them...its getting back on! (saddlegroincontactphobia)

Ja, saddle-of-the-scrotum is not much fun. 150mm dropper will help even if you are hung like a bull [emoji6]

PS on the RS hydraulic droppers you can adjust the speed of the return stroke so you dont have to flinch in anticipation every time you thumb the remote...[emoji15]

We hit the XCO track on Saturday.  There are some proper features on that thing, and I reckon the average weekend warrior will have to stick to the c-lines at first.  Everything is safely and cleverly built, but make no mistake, it ain't a picnic site.

But it will without a doubt lead to a general improvement of skills of anyone that rides it.  There are fast, flowing sections, disgusting rock gardens that swallow you if you don't get it right, big gap-doubles, proper rock drops, off-camber corners, lung busting climbs...it's a proper world-class XCO track.

I just hope people respect it for what it is because I already saw a family park on a c-line and meticulously move random babyhead rocks to smooth it out.  I didn't even bother talking to them, the ignorance was overwhelming.

No dude, you know that stuff needs addressing. Come now...

But agreed - that track is awesome!

How does it compare to Tokai ? Not the DH routes, the other trails.

Planning to go ride this one but need to know what size ball bearings I need to pack...

Some of the A-features and lines are proper black grade in size, but they all have B and C lines which are easy and very safe.
