Saddle tilting up

I have a Specialized Roubaix which came with the Cobl Goblr seatpost. This is a single bolt design which clamps from the side. I am a heavy rider (105 KGs), and no matter how much I tighten up the bolt, the saddle will tilt upwards when I hit a bump on the road or climb a steep hill and lean backwards. This seems to have been reported on the Web by a number of people, but no answers from Spesh, there is no rider weight limit for the seatpost.

 

So I took the plunge and bought an S-Works Pave SL post (with the same clamping mechanism) and lo and behold, the same issue is present. I have contacted Spesh SA via Facebook, Spesh SA seem to make it really difficult to find their phone number for some reason.

 

I could lose weight, but this seems like a design flaw to me. I have greased the cups as suggested and torqued the clamp as much as I dare.

 

Anyone have a similar experience or any sage advice?

Don't have experience with those particular seatposts but I have a Giant one with the same clamping mechanism. The same thing happens and it's a common complaint if you Google it. It required significant torque (way higher than spec) to get it to stop, and I'm only 80kg.

 

You can try some of that friction paste/compound. Failing that you may just need to switch to a 2 bolt post.

Common problem. I have it on my Cervelo if I go through a sharp dip in the road and seat bounce and I only weight 60kg.

Grip paste helps but you also need to tighten that bolt way past the recommended torque (do this at your own risk).

thx, I may try the grip paste, single bolt seems like a crap design, guess it is back to a 2 bolt paste. Any after some Spesh seatposts?

I have the same problem with my Venge, If I could swap the seat post, I would.

 

Everytime you are in the wrong position and you hit a pot hole, boom, saddle tilts up.

 

I am 78kg, so not a weight issue. If you torque it to the recommended torque its even worse.

 

I have learnt to try ride a little further forward on my saddle.

I need some setback and the setback version of the Thomson is fugly, considering the KCNC scandium post.

 

Spesh SA seem to be aware and want me to head off to one of their stores with the bike as there is a "trick" to getting this resolved. No news fo waht exactly the procedure is, but if it does work, I will be sure to share it here.

At the risk of repeating myself - get the Thomson. Especially since you're a heavier guy. KCNC is nowhere near as strong.

So I got my saddle to finally stay put. On the recommendation of a Specialized store, I removed the grease from the cups, replaced it with a **** load of carbon grip paste and tightened the hell out of the bolt. Gave it a day or 2 to settle and took it out this morning, I hit every road bump I could, no movement whatsoever in the saddle. Cured!
