Thing is that it's not the bike shops responsibility to fix the fence at the Vlei.

Good point that. It would take losing money due to a decrease in takings for the land owner to say oh wait .. let me protect my investment. Cycling is a small piece of that pie.

And so the result of this is that I saw a sign at Rietvlei yesterday saying that no solo riders are allowed on the green route during the week - totally understandable but makes me sad at the same time.

Ah well thank heavens that we have Thaba just up the road though

thats pretty much it, and you'd think that they were bring their A game after the hijacking.

I have never seen wanderers in Thaba, hopefully it stays that way.

Here's Wendells reply to the situation:

  • Wendell Bole We have had a meeting with Ann Marie and Pieter. I am working on solutions but at this point we are closing the green trails during the week. If anyone breaks the rule then they are responsible. We really don't want this to happen but then we live with a daily threat no matter where we are or what we are doing..but we will try but as a thought give us some suggestions....and positive suggestions are always welcome.

Like nsbb says thank you for thaba. What a complete f up that we can no longer ride in a bike park without the risk of getting jacked. And rv is such a good lung tester at full pace coz of the nature of the trail.

Am bitterly disappointed that I can't steal ( no pin intended) a ride there now during the week.

didnt they try break in to some guys car at thaba about 2 month ago?

They did.

When we came off the trail a guy was walking back from the Jeep, looked like they tried to steal it though.

Broken window etc but not a lot of valuables where taken from the vehicle

Take the chicken run before the river, at least you can still get up to the top and do Grahams Grind etc.

Not a fix, ridiculous actually. The other worry is that there is a school on the property, its not a stretch to assume those kids may find them self in danger!

I don't think its intended to be a fix, but rather an interim bandaid whilst the bigger issue is addressed, that of uncontrolled access through broken and missing fencing

Not intended as a fix but not good enough from the land owners or responsible parties.

i was thinking of that but then you miss out the best parts of the forest ...that little dip. The jump before the bridge. ReEntering the forest over the little hump. To much fun stuff to miss out.

I get it that it's a way of being able to ride the trails still. But I agree with the nerd.

Wtf? Get it sorted out ,whatever that takes. Or we might as well not bother even going there...although the boxing rink is still worth it :-)

Something has to be done. Or next will be thaba and so on and so forth.

Not safe to do outrides alone, can't ride back stretch at rv......?
