MTB carry boxes

Got a cardboard box from LBS and resized it to fit my wife's TT bike. Wrapped in bubble wrap and filled empty spaces with throw pillows to stop it from moving about. Durban and back without a scratch. Even with 4 others packed on top of it... Or hire a plastic one, there's an add in the classifieds at the moment...

V12, it's more like Bliksems HOT atm,

It's turning into winter their side, cooling down to a mid 20's/low 30's.

If you can't come right with a cardboard box at your LBS go to your nearest windscreen place (PG autoglass for eg). Those boxes are often thicker and bigger. I got one that had a windscreen from a lexus and I use it for my tandem every year to Cape town. It's long enough for a tandem or a single with wheels on! The walls are also a bit thicker. It's about 5 years old now and still going strong.

guys, there's adds for a square plastic box... rigid, comes in different colours,

can recall name or make,

anyone help.

I'l leaning towards bike boxes from shops, but want to put a long term solution together... The Thule box, as nice as it is, is heavy. I need to do box, bike and clothing for under 30Kg. The thule box on it's own is 16Kg.

Rather look for a soft bike case than a hard-case bike box; something like the evoc bike-bag is ideal for overseas travel (but with many of the local retail shops sell them around R4k5 to R5k5; one really needs to use it a lot to make sense of getting it)

The hard-case box IS heavy (box + road-bike weight around 24kg). I'd used it only for local trips such as the Argus & also fly with airlines where extra carry-on luggage is more forgiving (emirate as an example) & won't cost a fortune.

Or just use other people's advise, cardboard box if budget is a limiting factor...

Hi all

Whats seems to be the average weight of rigid boxes.

Get the idea is it' 10-15kg? That def makes the case of the "non" rigid variety.

Quite a few Emirates pilots keen cyclists and there is an open 24 hour fully lit cycle track about 80km long from recollection; cycle at night due to heat. Flat but good training. Active cycling club as well.  Not much for MTB as I understand it.

They have never said this to me and I just use normal cardboard box.

Thought so, but I have done this (sign) with FlySafair only, never with anyone else.
