What always amazes me is that everyone runs comrades and two oceans, cycles argus and 94,7 when there are other really great races to be run/ridden and some are a lot cheaper. Esp when you don't have to pay flights to Cape and accom...

example-

Wolkberg trail run- R950,

includes 2 nights accom, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners,

35km skyrun day 1 topping the Iron crown 1700m Elevation gain

25km day 2, 600m elevation gain/loss.

Spectacular views and day 2 is stunning running in the forrests past fly fishing dams and gardens.

This year we even got free leg massages after each day

Wartrail- More a multisport event, but IMO one of the best races in the country. You can do any combo of the stages if you want or just do them all cos why not, but if you looking at the comrades thread on a cycling forum you may as well do the first two days, you will not regret it...

Usually about R850 per leg to compete

Day 1, the run is 57 odd km of heaven, high up in the mountains, rough terrain, big climbs 2700m of climbing.

Day 2 is a mtb, 118km with another 2600m of climbing through jeeptrack, singletrack and district roads along rivers, there is even a hike a bike section.

Day 3 is the paddle, 60km down the orange river

Look it is an incredibly tough event, but the views and vibe are definitely worth it...

the hidden gems are worth going to find sometimes...

Running for ages.I have done 10 Comrades several Loskop, Om die Dam and Two Oceans and 100km races as well as cycle since 2003. 11 94.7 and Argus many other fun races

Run on Mondays and Wednesdays during week cycle Tuesday and Thursday . On Saturday morning do your long run if not racing the Sunday thereafter get on your bike for your LSD. It works

If you race on Sundays then cycle for 50km only on Saturday and run 10-15km on Sunday after your race.

Mondays rest day.

Depending on your race build up you will stop the one code for few days and concentrate on the build up of other .

Not a fast runner at all Best Comrades 8H54min.

Argus and 94.7 best times 3H12min.

In my group of bandits I have some who have achieved the following:

Comrades 8H35 and a 2H40 94.7

Comrades 8H46 and 94.7 of 2H50

a unique 8H59m58s Comrades and a 2H59m47S 94.7

The mind and body is a wonderful tool if used correctly

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT please get the buy in of your spouse on the training regime and the

amount of crap they have to put up with once the bug has bitten.

Enjoy

Well done sir!!

So my best time for 94.7 (2h21) could give me a 8h30 or better ...... I wish in my wildest dreams

Here's to hoping ????

as a kid growing up comrades fever got the race etched into my dna. Fond memories of the milo adverts making us run around the house in support whilst fordyce was smashing the field.

In my mind I thought I'd tackle it once in my 30's, halfway through the decade now and with other things happening it's still on page 2 of the bucketlist. it will always be there, will one day do it. When i did freedom challenge, it was still co-ordinated with comrades as leg1 of the FC Xtreme. so I sat on the plane to durbs full of comrades runners the vibe was electric - that's as close I've come!

Try not procrastinate with it

In my experience the older you get the less likely your to do it, especially if you been doing endurance sports for a lengthy time.

I entered comrades in +\- 1997 but never made it to the start due to injury..... Now I would like to do it and am working towards it but to be honest I don't know if I have the same motivation intensity that I had 20 yrs ago..... Nowadays I just think it's better to jog and cycle occasionally to keep healthy instead of going overboard with stuff like marathons and ultras....

Btw, those are just the two big ones. We are doing Lammergeyer next month, same part of the world as Skyrun and doing Ottosdal night marathon end of Jan. And everything else possible in between.

So true.

I was running with a Seasoned runner this year, and he said, each year he has to train double as hard just to get the same time as last year.

I agree with not doing too many endurance events, but feel you must focus on at least once when you hit 40+, so we focus on one super event a year.. The vibe, atmosphere and elation of Comrades is just worth the training you put in.

Do it.

Booked a 3 bed, 3 bath house in Umhlanga. One for us and one for my colleaque and his fam.

Nice. The Fam wants to stay in Durbs because its so close to the Aquarium and they just love the

Durban vibe during Comrades times. Most of our Spots are already booked up, but I got a nice place, Spinnaker 201. Looks pretty good.

I thought Accom would be no prob, but damn, I got a shock when everything is booked up for those days..

I once stayed at "Rustenburg Girls High Boarding School" when I did the OMTOM. Got nice breakfasts in the morning and even on race morning they made a special thingy for the runners that stayed there. I think it was about 2km from the start...And it was pretty cheap.

So for those doing the Soweto Marathon, they have changed the end from Nasrec to finish on the field inside the FNB Stadium, pretty much like Kingmead. I think that should be pretty cool for us novices.

Entries for it close on the 5th Sept

Back to the topic of the thread, i see Championchip already has the link setup on their website and ready to go with a note that entries will open on Tuesday the 1st Sept.

Ok, help our novices, where is the A and where is the Z of comrades and omtom registration?

I have already registered on omtoms website, but cannot see the same on comrades.

Oh and goes without saying we need to get both chips for both races as well....
