so still out with my foot...started my swimming regime to keep fit this morning. First swim in about 15 years...called it quits after 600m so I can at least be able to continue tomorrow!

Before you know it, you will be looking at triathlons[emoji12]

Capegate vaal is even flatter

Talking of Vaal marathon, if anyone is interested in doing it, maybe we could plan to have a small social at my (Meyerton) which is close to the event, I have a 10x4m pool to cool off in. I will be doing the HM so can start the fire while everyone else is finishing off.

I haven't been through this thread, but reading the thread title, I have a running problem myself. No more than 2km's and I start walking.

ditto - but I'm slowly getting to shuffle a bit further.

Bwaah...you laugh..actually contemplating putting a tick next to Midmar Mile if I carry on with the swimming

At the moment I'm OK for 5km runs (parkruns), but start too fast (lots of fast rabbits to catch, and memories of being faster and fitter) and then my lungs go for a tea break around the 2km mark....

Run / walk / huff / puff the rest of the way for me.

Fully understand, but running is a tough mistress to have. She demands attention every single day as well as a LOT of patience, so just keep chipping away at those 2kms and you'll get to run further!

A  Quick recap for the newbies to this thread, one of our local champs who ran the comrades in 07H02 this year had the following happen to him

Quick Story of Woe, as I might not be frequenting this pages as often to keep myself sane..

Chiro Recommended during my semi off season to maybe add some cycling back into my routine just twice a week to give the Achilles some change of scenery..

Took bike out with 16 months of dust (last rode day 3 Sani2c 2015), got it serviced and ready to ride...

Went out Saturday lunch for a quick 90mins before the Rugga, was 1km from home...... Woke up laying in the road in agony with a lot of people shouting...

Helmet in 4 pieces, S-Works in Half..

Long story short, some Guy in a Toyota Raider Jumped a stop street, T-Boned me at about 60kph without him braking, or me even seeing him coming..

Ended in ICU, surgery Sunday morning, broken Distal Femur and plate and screws inserted. Seeing Surgeon again tomorrow now the swelling has gone down a bit to see if the ACL or MCL are still intact and in good condition..

Crutches, No walking/driving for 12 weeks .. Spose it could have been alot worse

Kaapse Out, LUT out.... wondering if London marathon, Oceans and Comrades 17 are just pipe dreams now...

Be Safe out on the roads...

now a mere 100 days later he is starting to run again and did a 5.4km "jog" @5:32 min/km, insane!!!

All be best Ferret and dont push to hard to soon and set yourself back.

Thanks, but step one for me will be to find a shoe that fits properly. Comfort before brand

Anyone know of knowledgeable shops/sales peeps?

The Sweat shop next to Tony Impey as mentioned before is a great shop, just dont buy New Balance shoes. I did from them but its not their fault that the shoe sole is poorly designed. At the time it was the top of the range NB shoe out (Jan 2016)

Enjoy your time running, but take it slowly, dont increase mileage by more than 10% weekly and know it will take you joints a while to get use to the impact but they will. Dull pains are your body learning to coup, sharp pains are cause for concern.

As with cycling, 5 x 2km runs a week are better than 1 x 10km run, especially in the beginning.

Interesting comment about the NB shoes.

I find them the only brand that fits my wide foot (right foot somewhat wider than lefty) and also gives me room when the hoofs start swelling on hot days. I personally cant fit  Adi's, Nike's/Sauc or any of the other good running shoes.

My NB Leadville 100's have given me great service the past two years.

just goes to show how different we are.

Thanks Scott.. your a Champ...

Yep 100 Days later.. longest 14 weeks of my life..

Spent the first 10 on full crutches, week 11 was down to 1 Crutch and the last 3 I've slowly progressed from walking just a few 100m , to slowly adding a few slow jogs, to now as Scott says up to a 5km Jog.

Had my Final app with the Surgeon yesterday and after a last set of xrays I got the Good to go to get back to Gym (cos my leg has disappeared) Running and Some Cycling (if I wanna brave the roads so maybe Watt Biking).

He says Femur is at 100% and I can get the 5 Screws and Plates out on the 8th March.. so that will be nice too.

Now the next 15 weeks starts trying to get myself back to a level of strength and fitness to keep to my promise of Jogging London Marathon with the wife on 23rd April.

21 weeks to Comrades is sooooo tempting.... I had written it Off but may be possible if i accept it will be a slower one

I need to get another running shirt, a club one.  So thinking ahead to Comrades, which is the type of shirt that us "whole-day-long folks" want to wear?

I hear the arguments for the sun is going to burn you with a running vest type shirt, but they are cooler than the normal short sleeve shirts?

My wife is currently on NB's as well, also wide foot problems.  Time will tell.

Just on the Saucony's, the Triumph ISO3 does come in a wide fit now FWIW.

Take it easy Ferret! Heal up well. Good to hear you're back in training, though!

Yup, there is always next year.   You know what they say about spyt kom te laat!

Or you can go and do a casual enjoyable comrades and be cutoff at the 60km's mark...

My petty little plantar injury seems so insignificant now!
