Bailed at 21.1 today. Just no motivation to do another lap basically. Battling with motivation full stop with running to be honest.

Well run event.

Mini rant - why do I overtake mobile chicanes for the first couple of kays, why don't these ppl start at the back of the field instead of in the front. And I run slow.

My last timed event before IM I reckon, will need to work on motivation.

Laps are always a bit of a head screw... It's particularly bad when you can see the beer tents and smell the boerie rolls

Woke up at :04:30 to do a 1 1/5 h run, went outside and it's raining cats and dogs with thunder thrown in between. Nothing else I could do but to get back into bed. I still bloody feel guilty for nut running.....

I recommend you immediately check to see if you still have a set of balls

Well done... seems you are handling the nutrition adjustments well

Thanks, TBH was a bit all over the place in thoughts when diagnosed pre-diabetic, but seems my dietitian got it pretty close so am very happy!!

From a few friends that ran it, Ottasdal seems like a very lekker race - think I might give that a bash next year!

Our year started off different than planned, so we sticked to our training program and downscaled the 42 to a 21.

It was a very nice weekend and a very nice race.   The whole weekend was organised very very well.

We had a bit of cold this weekend so after sunset there was a chilly breeze.   It would've turned a bit cold for the guys (like we would've been) that was out late on the marathon route.

I can only describe JC as my worst running race ever... Started off in the gridlock traffic after we left at 3:45, and getting to Tom Jones at 4:40. At 5:50 we were still in the car, I jumped out to go to the loo, ran to the start and started 5 minutes late.

We started right at the back, so it was a 3 km obstacle course to get thru all the walkers and "bigger" runners. At 7km my wheels came off with stomach cramps and usual nausea. I told my running mate that I am not going to do the marathon today, I am suffering and I am not even halfway yet. So I bailed... I ran my worst 21km time yet and a guy with a pram with twins came flying past me.

Yesterday after the race I felt like drinking straight out of a wine bottle and eating McDonald's (which I haven't done in more than 6 years..)

Going to the specialist again this afternoon, hoping he can sort out my nausea.

Congrats to everyone who had an excellent training weekend, I am very jealous.

Hacc, you are not alone at the moment! I've run 4 times in 2017! Picked up a virus somewhere and if the amount of time on the porcelain scooter could've been training time I would be super excited. Keep taking time off to recover, thinking I have and when I then try to run\train, it's really sore and doesn't ease up and the whole bad stomach thing starts up again!

Even had to cut a few surf sessions short as the stomach cramps were so bad that laying on the board was too uncomfortable and I was so flat from all the nutrient loss, that I was quite useless in the water! It's been just long enough to start to affect my mental state now! Super frustrated!

I am glad I am not alone. Feeling very distraught right now. I am not even close to the kms I am supposed to be doing now.

I also keep going thru the same cycle: try to train, feel crap, rest, feel guilty for resting, try to train etc...

Have you been to a doctor?

sorry to hear that Haac. That start would have not had helped anything at all and would definitely have assisted in the nausea.

just remember.....there is still plenty of time (even though you are waaay more comrades experienced than me!)

Must say - I am battling to keep my HR down at the moment. I think the stress surrounding this stupid lump on my foot is not helping the matters though...

last year I did 295 km in Jan...this year I will have done 190km only!

I'm hoping it will mean I wont peak in March like last year though!

Not yet. I don't fancy going straight to a doc. I usually like to wait and see and fiddle with some things on my side first. Adjust diet a little, get more sleep, etc. See what the impact of these are first after at least a few weeks. I don't enjoy the mental fogginess I feel from popping pills, so I use that as a last resort. I've added about an extra 40 mins of sleep and this has meant I'm feeling a little more refreshed in the mornings, but halfway through the odd morning training efforts and I'm back to feeling depleted. Trying to ride this one out, but I can see the goals I have for OMTOM receding as the focus becomes on getting over this!

Hard luck Hacc... bad days at the office always suck.

Just a pointer on the race traffic, always go on google maps when on your way, we went straight past the long queue(already a km plus long before 5am) on the highway to the next off-ramp at Snake Road. Was very quick and easy from there with hardly any cars coming in from the other side!

Thanks, Stretch, you are right, it is still early... but we are runners, and it is the end of the world if you miss one long run or you are 20/30 seconds of your pace.

Good grief, 295km in January already??

Thank you Andrew, I heard Snake road was very quick.

I think I will also do Ottosdal next year, change of scenery and JC is so hot...
