Mudsimus Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 After running a year with niggles and every running injury under the sun my physio recommends that I go for a proper analysis and maybe get orthotics from a podiatrist. In Bloemfontein we do have a runners lab, so Im sure they will do a proper job. Its just to get my head around the idea of running with inserts in my shoes. Is anyone running with orthotics and did it help for any injuries?
Stretch Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Which ones Stretch? I dunno just the slightly thicker ones on the shelf I think they re neutral run
Stretch Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 We got to the start about 35 minutes late, We got home in 3:33 on our watches though we didn't get any recorded time because we were so late over the mat. That bollocks they should have a record of you starting and finishing...because you finished just over 4 hours on the official start time. They would also have a record of your first lap time. I would query the result with the timekeepers and get your result officially recognised. Its not like you will be asking for a 3:33...but a 4:15 instead. And big kudo's to your wife..you dont just rock up and run a marathon..I was a ball of nerves at the start of my first 42 Mr Winter, Hacc and Barry Stuart 3

Go get an assessment from a biokinitikist and help him to develop your core (glutes, quads and hip flexors) where are your niggles? knees/itb? or feet? Mudsimus, 'Kaze Pete and Andrew Steer 3

Is anyone running with orthotics and did it help for any injuries?I run with Orthotics. After my first marathon, I had ITB and could not walk properly. I went to Dr. Dubowitz (He is a sports podiatrist) in Rosebank. I pronate badly and the orthotics help a lot. I don't have any pain or injuries. It is expensive. R5000 that you have to pay and then claim from your medical aid. If you do high mileage it only lasts 2 years. For me, it is absolutely worth it. Edited February 1, 2017 by Hacc

And big kudo's to your wife..you dont just rock up and run a marathon..I was a ball of nerves at the start of my first 42 Unfortunately the start mat stops logging times 10 minutes after the start. I'm not too stressed about it as there are still plenty of marathons between now and Comrades and I'm going to have to get creative to find more ways to screw up my results. As for my wife, she was only registered for the 21 so no result for her in any case but I'm happy it gave her the confidence that a Comrades run is possible. We've entered the Maritzburg marathon, which isn't as flat as JC but the lower altitude should help us get decent qualifying times. As for the nerves, I think it actually helped that she wasn't expecting to run a marathon. She didn't have any time to overthink it. Andrew Steer 1
Mudsimus Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I went to Bios and physios for some time now. They sorted my runners knee and itb, but Ive been struggling with shin splints for some time now. I have a daily routine targeting all the major running muscle groups, so dont think the problem is there. The cost is not that bad, its R1700 wich includes custom running 3d milled orthotics and the feet and gait assessment. Stretch 1

If the weather is good you will get a good qualifying time. My mate has an airbnb spot if you looking for accom Barry Stuart 1
Jackes Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 We got home in 3:33 on our watches though we didn't get any recorded time because we were so late over the mat but it was hella fun running her first 42 with her. A 3:33 for a first marathon..... We are seriously doing something wrong.. Congrats, fantastic result (non-result) that! She will take a LOT of heart from knowing she can do that! She will take a LOT of heart from knowing she can do that! Ja, she's one of those annoyingly natural runners. I feel like I'm stamping holes in the tar whilst she looks like she's floating along effortlessly. She's a good training partner though. ScottCM 1
ScottCM Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 My bigger problem now, though, is that my wife wants to run Comrades so if anyone knows of an entry going come the transfer window please let me know. My poor kids are going to be running orphans. That is a top time, even unofficially. congrats to both of you. I have an entry which no one has booked yet so let me know if you are interested. Edgar Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 On that note, if anybody else knows of a comrades entry going please let me know. I have a mate who cannot plan and now needs one. On Comrades qualifying, for the Gauteng and surrounds. Vaal marathon and Irene ultra and good for Q and seeding purposes.
Stretch Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 there will be comrades entries popping left right and centre in the next few months...dont stress
ScottCM Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Anyone got their ASA licence yet or are we all still waiting?
