CobusV Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 My training has come to a complete stop. My ITB is acting up and I have been instructed to not run for the next 2 weeks. This after taking off last week as well. I am worried I am not going to have enough time to get up to fitness for 2 Oceans. If I can run again in two weeks' time, that leaves me 3 weeks to Oceans, having lost a month of training. Is this still doable or am I better of writing Oceans off and focusing on getting the ITBS healed? There was a similar thread going on trailhub: http://www.trailhub.co.za/topic/619-training-and-recovery/ See Koei's repsonse (he is also on bikehub). Good luck. Hope it heals in time.

ADe Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 If it is not your first OMTOM then I am sure you know what it takes to complete the race and you know your body. REST the next two weeks and then you make a call. How many kms have you trained from January to now and what was your longest run? This will be my first OMTOM. I have done 340km since January and my longest was a marathon and I have done about 4 x 25 km+ long runs Mr Winter 1

Andrew Steer Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Wondering if the Argus protests might affect OMTOM this year? If I go down to the Cape twice and don't even get over Chappies once, there will be hell to pay Lexx 1

If I go down to the Cape twice and don't even get over Chappies once, there will be hell to pay I hope the OMTOM Organisers have put some plan in place. I am not going to be very happy traveling all the way to CT and not be able to run. A 100km/h wind will be difficult to face - at least we are not on bikes.Protests - well I guess we can run around an obstacle course made of rocks. Fires - we ran up Old Kaapse Weg two years ago. I feel gutted for the cyclists. I truly hope this won't ever repeat itself - not for CTCT or OMTOM. Lexx and Andrew Steer 2
Lexx Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I would also be pissed if I went to Cape Town and then they decided not to start the OMTOM.

Hopefully the Cape gets some rain soon as it's crazy dry down there, the whole place is like a tinder box waiting for the next discarded smoke

Andrew Steer Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 It sounds like you were on track with your training. I think you must rest the two weeks and then make a decision.Yip, that's solid mileage and it's definitely better to get rid of the issue... To give you a positive angle, I ran a PB at Vaal marathon after two weeks off with the flu, so the body remembers, and some time off the legs is not always the end of the world. Going in injured though, will not end well Lexx 1
