EmptyB Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I saw an ice cold beer in our club tent ha ha ha Now it all makes sense !!
Stretch Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I saw an ice cold beer in our club tent ha ha ha I had that beer from a stranger while walking up fairfield avenue..best beer dregs I have ever had...ok..it was more like a third of a beer than dregs...but three big gulps tasted like heaven
Andrew Steer Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) Also ended up with a mate right at the end after running completely separate races... he went out hard and tried to hold on and I went out easy and tried to finish strong. Finally caught him 1km out after he had been as much as 15 minutes ahead at Umlaas. Definitely happier with my strat though... he was hurting at the end. Definitely happier with my strat though... he was hurting at the end. I know which strategy I will continue to follow...   In the words of Lindsay Parry... Well done to everyone who STARTS this monster of a race.I am a firm believer that Comrades gives us was we deserve, and it can be cruel sometimes.I loved my day, loved the support and my wife was an incredible second.I ran 7:11 and although not my goal I got what I deserved. Went way too hard to Hillcrest and my legs we eina by Bothas, a long hard fight to the end ensued and at 82k Comrades won and I started to cramp. I had to walk the last 5k so watched as my sub 7 dream faded. So again I say congratulations to everyone who ran, whether you achieved your goal or not. I hope you had as much fun as I did and I hope you will be back to see if you can tame this monster!Ps. I'm going to start following my own advice. Soon. I promise. Lexx and Hacc 2
Stretch Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 And the Positive split champ.  Would love to hear the story.... He was an A batch - so Sub 3 marathon..prob got his hydration/food intake wrong and then started vomiting etc. looks like he blew on Botha's and then blew fantastically on Inchanga. Â

Or his friend did his qualification for him. Haha. Still kudos to him for finishing, that is what you want to see. Stretch 1

Andrew Steer Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Some good food for thought in here... Interesting Comrades stats: 81% of starters finished the race, only 51% of starters finished before 11hrs. 11% in last 15mins and 96 people in the last 60 seconds!!Some interesting stats from Sunday: There were 13852 finishers of 17098 starters according to current timing data (more on this later) i.e. roughly 81% of starters finished. The 19% DNF proportion in 2017 is actually slightly lower than the DNF proportion for the last Up run in 2015 of about 23%. [% of starters.]Average time taken to cross start mat by seeding: 0m12s Elite & A 0m41s B 1m36s C 2m02s CC 3m18s D 4m27s E 5m35s F 6m48s G 7m21s HLast H seeding runner crossed mat in 10m01s. Last starter (in G) crossed start mat (very late) 13 minutes after start gun. Some runners with missing splits again (25 people), but I think most of these have explanations (seems bailers crossed finish mat again).8.5% of female finishers & 2.2% of male finishers ran negative splits. Biggest negative: 5:54:56/4:26:22 Biggest positive: 3:37:14/8:12:32 (what a story he must have!)The proportions of negative splits are much lower than for the Down run (cf. 2016: 21.5% of female finishers and 7.2% of male finishers)Of the 6264 people that finished both the 2015 and 2017 Up runs: 3293 improved (52.58%), 2968 fared worse (47.38%), 3 ran exact same time.A quarter of these were 5.1% or more faster, and a quarter were 4.2% or more slower. Very wide variation here though. Average: 0.3% faster. As always, women more likely to run a negative split than men are, almost irrespective of finish time.In 2017, women were on average 7.7% slower over the second half than the first, and men were on average 17.8% slower. Andrew Steer Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Soweto Marathon entered... want to be up back and running pretty well by then (5 Nov) Entries close the end of this month for those interested. There's a 21km too Very lekker race, well supported and well organised these days And a free Nike race shirt... not bad value for a R200 entry Lexx, Stretch and Hacc 3
Andrew Steer Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Almost went for a run/ride this Sunday... but a lekker chilled Sunday family lunch won the day! Did at least get going with my basic morning bio work though today - just felt too weird to be doing nothing, and lord knows I have some muscles that need strengthening - my hamstrings in particular were becoming an obvious weakness in the weeks leading up to Comrades. Also cleaned up the bike and got her running nice and smooth - definitely going to do some riding sooner rather than later shaper, Hacc and ScottCM 3
