Andrew Steer Posted April 7, 2016 Share ja - gonna join Andrew and get some sexy compression socks Hahaha... don't do it, it's not worth it. Rather be injured Not even the compression socks are helping me anymore, sukkeled through a 21km on Sunday, was kind of just waiting for it to go the whole race, but it somehow kept together.32km this weekend, probably gonna be more of the same - but it's do or die now, can't skip anything. Don't do anything stupid Stretch (that role is strictly reserved for me) - make sure it's healed properly - you have time for a little break/easing off Stretch and Rocket-Boy

Stretch Posted April 8, 2016 Share the old story is true...running is a cheap sport until you get an injury....3 visits to physio and compression socks...i almost choked when i saw the price. I was advised to not go for the First Ascents or nikes.....R580! holy moly anyway calf is healing nicely 4 days of solid rest and physio work...and all looks on track for a nice slow run on Sunday SwissVan

Sounds like my Vet that will only sell me Royale Canine dog food Let me know how they go, my Nikes seem a fair bit better (tighter if that actually means anything) than the FA's, but they're devastatingly fugly - lumo yellow and black Stretch
SeaBee Posted April 12, 2016 Share Haven't even run with my "funky socks" yet... got it for some longer training runs due to my recurring calf niggle. Also - I got the sleeves to be able to wear socks of choice. But funnily enough, those were the exact terms my buddy used when advising me on compression - don't get the Nike or such stuff. I was between CompressSport and the 2XU at the expo and in the end went for CompressSport, purely because the correct size one in 2XU cut into my ankle and Achilles area lightly and I know that will become an issue when running, even if it's hardly noticeable when standing around. Haha, and yes, that was my thoughts exactly! Heck, this is expensive... till I realised that's hardly more than a session or two on the pain bench - and it NEVER ends at just a session or two! dracs Posted April 12, 2016 Share Had the same issue - my physio advised compress sports sleeves so I ended up coughing up for these at the 2oceans expo (seem to recall they were as much as about 800 mulas?). Must say they seem to give a lot of support, although I still wonder how much of it is physiological and how much is psychological...

Andrew Steer Posted April 12, 2016 Share I've had to pull the plug on my Comrades run this year... got sick on Sat at my 5yr olds birthday so missed my planned 32km on Sunday - another setback I just couldn't afford. Bummed, but also feel in a way, a little relieved. The stress of prepping has just been building and I was struggling to get in anything near decent mileage. I've done it on 500km's training before, but this was going to be way less... a wing and prayer pretty much. Gonna keep going with the training though, just without the distraction of the long runs - will be nice to just enjoy 21's and work on ironing out all my issues in prepping for next year - this year just wasn't mean to be. I've got an entry as well as very nice accom for two 20minutes from the start - will offer them to my running club guys first, but if they are all sorted will put it on here. Good luck with the journey ahead guys, will be following with interestNot looking forward to that cockerels crow on 29 June on my couch, but learnt some harsh lessons this year and I will be way more on top of things for next year! Stretch Posted April 12, 2016 Share Really sorry to hear that Andrew..you have been through some turmoil...but looks like your body is trying to tell you something. Keep it ticking over so by Jan next year you are in the same position you are in now..or even better! and then 2017 will be yours for the taking! no point in making it a really *** day, which will mentally probably be more detrimental. I have a mate who can run a BR, but 6 comrades later he is still mentally plagued by having to pull out at 70km on his first attempt...because of that he always goes out waaay too slow and finishes strong....being mentally beaten by this race is no fun at all best of luck Andrew Steer

Got a little bit of Man flu over the last week, tried to run through the 28/32km weekend but caught me Sunday night so taking a few days off to recover... Lucky I'm slightly ahead of my mileage so can afford a few days to get well before the Route Tester 57km Sunday. apart from the normal aches, pains, niggle, runny noses and slight colds everything is still going to plan... 7 weeks to go ... Hacc Posted April 12, 2016 Share Sorry to hear that Andrew. At least you are smart enough to make the decision, most runners will probably still run and hate themselves on the day. Keep training, there is always next year, and also lots of races this year to keep you motivated. Andrew Steer
ScottCM Posted April 12, 2016 Share Gonna keep going with the training though, just without the distraction of the long runs - will be nice to just enjoy 21's and work on ironing out all my issues in prepping for next year - Since i withdrew i have decided to do exactly this. Try and get as fast as i can at HM's and enjoy them and then later i will worry about next years comrades. Are you doing Birchwood this Sunday? Heard its flat so will be attempting to do my first ever sub 2. Slow by the Ferrat's gauge but a PB aim for me. Nice thing is that the wife, kids and family members (9 of them) will all be doing the fun run 5km, while my sister (Who will be going for a PB and a podium) and i will to the HM.
