Edgar Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Quick question for all the Comrades runners. What is your total distance year to date? And what are you aiming for? 1230km, should finish the week on 1300km. would like to get to 2100km on race day. Up from 1950km last year.
Stretch Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Depends on what your goal is and what the quality of the training is. I would normally be somewhere between 850 and 1000 now Hacc 1

Jackes Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 (edited) It is by far my favorite ultra. Indeed an unbelievable race. I just don't get it what it is with this race and my itb's.... From about 5km's I felt something is not lekker, all my joints were aching. From before 20km there was no doubt that I had full on itb issues again. This year in the right knee. I don't know if it is the camber of this whole route basicly. So apart from almost being reduced to not be able to step on that leg (helped on with a mybulen, normally against what I believe in), not to mention top speed being reduced, especially on the downs, we still had a stunning day out and managed to pull 40mins of our time of last year. Needless to say the other sides of Chappies and Constantia was not a joke! Very happy (and yet still gatvol with what is happening with my comrades training AGAIN) overall! Jaws677 Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I will be on a 1000km end of this week. Aim is 10:30 Comrades time.
Mudsimus Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I believe that you need to ask Mr Steer what the minimum should be.... How is the injury going? All these numbers being thrown around scares me. Im on about 480km, after missing the whole of March. Im running again, slowly. Will see how the weekend long run goes.

Will see how the weekend long run goes. Andrew will tell you, that you can start with your taper now! LOL Take it slowly and carefully. Injury free is first priority! Oh, and have a look at the diet whilst your taking time off, Bruce says it is better to be undertrained AND overweight...
Andrew Steer Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 287km Setting a new bench mark for minimalist... hoping to get to around 500km with a late push Aim will be around 11/11:30hours as any goals are long since out the window Chris_ and Hacc 2

The camber at OMTOM is ***... seriously, it's never flat smooth roads. I spent a lot of time finding the flatest sections and often ran on the pavement/gutters - anywhere pretty much as my ITB was also not too happy. Also stopped for a good proper stretch on the Chappies downhill to work on it. All my wondering might also explain why I nearly got 58km on race day. Hacc 1

Lexx Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I will be happy with anything under 9hours. I'm focusing on Quality sessions rather than very high mileage. ATM im on 1413km. Prob end up on 1900-2000km. Its actually very strange territory for me,seeing that I have never felt this good and strong. So im a little bit scared of making any predictions. Will just see how I feel on the day. shaper, Stretch and ScottCM 3

Either my ITB issues are not as bad as yours and Jackes, or we ran on different roads. The camber was only an issue for me on the descent of Constantia Nek.
Jackes Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Obviously people differ, but I can agree on this! I'm focusing on Quality sessions rather than very high mileage.
