Stillwater Sports just posted on their Origins of Trails event page that the Banhoek trails are unharmed, all thanks to the efforts of the local firefighters!

I am still hoping for lots of rain, but both YR and WindGuru says only a spittle will fall tonight. So, I don't know where our national weather service get their info from.

Just heard that Sir Lowry's Pass is also on fire.

On my why out of the city i saw smoke at stellenbosch, sir lowrys and then on the right towards gordons bay....luckily rain has started to fall in ssw.

sort of between the N2 and the railway. They are just letting it burn away, no real wind and no real threat yet. Just lotsa smoke.

 

The bigger issue is the shack fire in Nomzamo

AFAIK the fire did not enter the Jonkershoek conservation area. Yet.

I don't think the fire entered Jonkershoek - it was more towards Botmaskop and was fairly high up on Sunday evening, but the wind pushed it quite low towards the farms during the evening/early morning. Will post a picture tomorrow that will show a clearer picture of the area that were burned.

Jobkershoek was still open on Sunday. I'm planning a ride Thursday morning and will keep everyone informed.

Rode in Jonkershoek today. No problems in Jonkershoek valley. The fire never came over the ridge. So it's open for riding.
