How to increase ave. speed ?

Howzit. Welcome

 

If tou train everyday you need a brake I dont mean regular normal rest brakes. Take some time too do other things for a couple of days it sounds really stupid but it does make a difference did for me. Your muscles sometimes need extended rest periods.

 

Also your intake for vuma before during and after training.

Be patient is another thing.

What would you suggest? I'm thinking something along the lines of Shimano's SLX.

SLX set is good. One of my friends are running the whole SLX groupset. Smooth reliable

 

If you are just changing brakes I do hope you can get the ice brake discs too. For a 90kg guy they stopped me very fast.

 

But if you truly truly can do it go for Deore XT.

I am taking a break from the Shimano brakes brand because a brick struck and broke back caliper and rotor.... now using Avid brieke.

With all your technical specifications mumbo-jumbo, can you please clarify, are these stick brakes or stuck brieke?

Do not worry that much about the 6 hour cut off at 94.7. You will most probably start earlier giving you a good 7 to 8 hours to finish. My first 94.7 i played spanner boy for a hubber who did it on a trike for charity. I can't remember his name, i think he moved to Ireland at one stage. But my strategy was just to stay with him and we finished under 6.5 hours.

 

Oh yes and intervals. Start easy. 1 minute full out 4 min normal pace. That times six with a warmup and warmdown. Once a week and easy rides the day before and after. Long ride on the weekend

As you can see I'm a newbie here. (first post :clap: )

 

I'm a para-cyclist and need some advice.

 

I've been trying to better my average speed but for some reason its not happening.

 

Any advice from you peeps in the know would be welcome  

 

To ride faster you must first ride faster.

 

This is one of the reasons intervals work.  Ride as hard as you can for a few minutes, then take it easy.  Rinse and repeat.

 

Don't go a little bit faster.  You're likely doing that already at some stage (hills?).  Ride as hard as you can for a set time period (2 to 5 minutes is a good start), then rest as hard as you can for 5 minutes, so you're ready to repeat it.  After a few repeats, you've done 30 minutes much faster than you're used to (even if your average over an hour has dropped), and your body adapts.

 

Don't overdo the intervals.  If you do 3 "proper", and number 4 is wonky, don't do number 5.  Wait for your body to adapt.

 

Don't do puking intervals every single day.  You get stronger when you rest, not when you train harder.

 

Get a coach to tell you how many hard days, and how many easy days for maximum results at your current fitness level.

First build muscle power by doing intervals and recovering optimally like body builders do ,then work on endurance -more of the same .Then cadence .You will have more torq that you can sustain longer and avarage speed will improve

May I suggest you get in contact with a sailing coach. Sailors, specifically the winch grinders have very good training programmes tailored to improving lower back and arm and shoulder strength. They may be better able to advise you about coaches and exercises.

This. Great advice and out of the box thinking that makes a heck of a lot of sense.
