Allrounder Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Hi guys. As the topic states, I was challenged and I accepted. I may buy a new bike if I loose 13 kg, and keep it of for 2 months. ( I tried to sneak in a lot of water before I got on the scale........didn't work) So I have a steel ritchey in mind....... But that is the result. I need tips on how to train with the best weight loss in mind, life style changes, mind shifts etc that wont require me selling my home to afford. I did go through the HFLC fred, but I am not to sure how safe that is in the long run, and it seems extremely expensive to do "correct" I am currently on 96, was 107 2 years ago, and was on 92 in November.
Allrounder Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 83 is the goal, because that is what I weighed before my back injury 10 years ago.
Patchelicious Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Lots of threads about this. Number 1 step. Download a calorie counter like Fatsecret, capture EVERYTHING you eat, you will notice very quickly where you need to cut down. Eat 1000Cals a day less than you need and you will drop a kilogram to a kilo and a half per week easy peasy, even more for the first few weeks. You might go hungry, but a LCFH diet will help stem the hunger. Good luck, and I get dibs to ride the Ritchey for the free advice above Edit: Remember you lose weight through DIET, you get faster by training harder I cannot stress how much diet plays a part in this.
Dazshell Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Low fat, low carbs. Keep off all alcohol. Okay maybe a whisky or two will be okay, but beer and wine out. I dropped 25kgs in 6 months and it worked for me. Went form 102 to 77. Now ride 10 hours a week and have kept it off for nearly 5 years.
Blackheart Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Simple, but harder than it sounds. Burn more than you eat.
dirtypot Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I lost 28kg (I was a fatboy at 103kg) just by cutting out ALL of the crap. No snacks, no treats, nothing. Then I ate smaller portions of food. There would normally be a mound, but it reduced dramatically. And I started cycling a lot more - to work everyday, more training in the mornings, long weekend rides, etc. As the kilos dropped, I felt better about myself and I was getting fitter and stronger at the same time so I wanted to do it more and more - it became almost an obsession to avoid the junk food isle at PnP and force myself out of bed at 4am to go for a ride.I managed to do it without calculating intake, getting a fancy meal plan (same food as always, just less of it) or getting exotic supplies. Just a solid mindset change is all that you need. And a new bike shining it's light at the end of the tunnel is some serious bonus motivation! You can do it!
Allrounder Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Cool thanks Patch, when you can come and visit in town when I have the ritchey.
Ed-Zulu Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Good luck and don't do your back in in the process

Work like a charm for me. Used fat secret beginning of last year and although I did not make real dietary changes I became very aware of what I was eating and made better choices come meal time. I have not regained the weight afterwards. Just one word of causion ... make sure that you take into consideration that if you do extra riding or exercises that you factor that in. I made the mistake while using the Fatsecret app that it did a huge amount of riding but still stuck eating to my qouta for the day and I almost fainted. As long on a daily basis you burn more than you eat then you are fine.
Bateleur1 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I also did small routine changes like my 45 min morning ride was before and not after breakfast. Don't eat too late in the evening if possible. Eat bigger lunches and smaller dinner portions.
Allrounder Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Cool thanks guys. I think I should get my commuting shoes out of the cupboard, and start there. That is a 20 km to work and another 20 back. I think dirtypot makes a valid point, it is extremely difficult to leave the treats on the table while watching a movie, or when I get home after a long day, not to buy slap chips for supper. (2 jobs does not leave to much time for cooking) @Dazshell I am of the alcohol even the whiskey, but will look into the carbs....
Bateleur1 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 o Cr@p... i am at 39% RDI....... Yup, Since Fatsecret I avoid slap chips and pap and try to avoid full cream ice cream (loads of energy in there )
fanievb Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 *highjack*anyone know if its possible to sync fatsecret and your fitness app (garmin connect/endomondo etc)logging everything manually seems a bit tedious
