I swear I heard them say he had extended with MTN.. obviously had a change of heart.
tombeej Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 I'm sure Brent Copeland had a lot to do with making this move happen, being ex MTN-Qhubeka himself.
mon-goose Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I guess there was always a risk that another big team would want him once he started doing so well
JanJan Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/meintjes-set-to-re-sign-with-mtn-qhubeka/ Something changed in a weeks time. I doubt that he will get the same exposure at Lampre as what he is getting now. He is going to be a domestique for next season for Costa or Ulissi, as Lampre are mostly looking for stage wins.
CASSIE1975 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Will have to wait and see... Merida fan myself, so good luck and best wishes!!!
Gen Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 There must be uncertainty to MTN's future as they still haven't secured a new title sponsor for next year... the runour that dimension data will take over is still a rumour and nothing official has been confirmed. . So I think DD have probably decided not to..
Patchelicious Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Well lets see what he says.... Maybe Lampre can pay more, but I doubt he will get the same support there. Also, at Lampre he loses that "moral" support they get at MTN because of the charity work and being the "African" team etc. He must do what he must do, its his choice after all, I'm just not sure its the right move. Maybe there has been further development regarding the new sponsor at MTN or lack thereof...
NicoBoshoff Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 At least he didn't sign with Astana...Or Specialized...we don't need another Aaron Gwinn.
Andrew Steer Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Pity, I don't think it's a good setup, what have they ever really done as a team?It does sadly ask some questions about the future of our team though If I'm not mistaken, Robbie is his manager, is based in Como... and he used to ride for Lampe - so the link is most likely there
