Louis Meintjes signs for Lampre-Merida

South African will join Italian team from MTN-Qhubeka.

 

In a dramatic turn of events Louis Meintjes has signed a two-year contract with Lampre-Merida starting in 2016. The highly rated South African climber has been part of the MTN-Qhubeka setup since turning professional in 2013.
 
Meintjes moves on a two-year deal and will improve the Italian squad's WorldTour roster with the team having plans on the rider improving his standing in stages races and Grand Tours.

Huh.. I swear I heard them say he had extended with MTN.. obviously had a change of heart.

There must be uncertainty to MTN's future as they still haven't secured a new title sponsor for next year... the runour that dimension data will take over is still a rumour and nothing official has been confirmed. . So I think DD have probably decided not to..

Well lets see what he says....

 

Maybe Lampre can pay more, but I doubt he will get the same support there.

Also, at Lampre he loses that  "moral" support they get at MTN because of the charity work and being the "African" team etc.

 

He must do what he must do, its his choice after all, I'm just not sure its the right move.

 

Maybe there has been further development regarding the new sponsor at MTN or lack thereof...

Pity, I don't think it's a good setup, what have they ever really done as a team?

It does sadly ask some questions about the future of our team though  :blush:

 

If I'm not mistaken, Robbie is his manager, is based in Como... and he used to ride for Lampe - so the link is most likely there  ;)
