The only issue I have with OP is that he came to post today. He could have waited till tomorrow afternoon 3pm. This thread needed to get to 10 pages of speculation and bitching first, kinda of an anti climax.

Hope you come right OP, not cool to lose cash like that

Since it's a cr 1 road bike I'm hedging my bets that kelson is 100% truthful.

I've seen a few cr1 frames crack on the top tube in a similar location. In each of those cases the same excuse was given by the distributor in that the top tube was clamped too firmly by the lbs. In the case of a friends bike I know for a fact it was never clamped there since his bike carrier was a roof rack type and the lbs always clamped it by the seatpost.

My opinion is that Scott have a known problem on those frames and are just fobbing their customers off so they don't have to replace the frame

His and a few others experience with the warranty on their cr1 frames is why I'd never buy or recommend one.

Kelson good luck and fight the good fight.

the insurable event is the frame cracking.

I've had issues with an insurance claim where the frame also cracked for no specific reason. Insurance simply said there is no insurable event and attributed it to wear and tear which is not covered.

That not how insurance is supposed to work doesn't sound right. You insure a risk (your frame) against a peril (it cracking).

Maybe take this one further. Which company was it?

I did take it all the way to the STI ombudsman. They upheld Discovery Insure's view that the frame cracked due to normal wear and tear.

I am currently on the lookout for new insurance...

That is a large crack and I'd say consistent with the tube being in torsion while the area was delaminated. Impact cracks still tend to extend along the fibre.

Only way to tell is to cut the tube open or x-ray it.

tanks for that info...

Out of interest, how old was the frame?

2012 model which I bought second hand(thus could not claim from manufacturer under warranty). Happened about a year ago so the frame was about 2 years old.

The insurance looks at what caused the crack. If you rode it and it just cracked they attribute it to manufacturers defect or wear and tear. Neither of those is covered under your insurance policy...
