Been there done that (Vx licenced racing) demmit you WILL bleed from the eyeballs! I prefer 'racing' in the alphabet soup where I belong ....

As competitive as I am think I'd rather skip that pleasant experience ????

Nothing wrong with soup ????

VA is usually 30 - 39 year olds, VB is usually 40 - 49 year olds, and VC 50 plus.

On the bigger races, like Argus/947 etc they go up in 5 year increments.

If you are not old enough to race in those catergories, you ride in open seeded or AL/BL etc.

You also need a Racing License to ride in the racing catergories and your seeding index needs to be high enough to qualify. If you are able to keep up with the AL front guys, and are older than 30, give it a bash. But its not as easy as you think. Also, if you get dropped, you cant just latch onto the next group that comes past. You will get DQed. So if you get dropped from VA, you cant hook up with VB, VC but will have to ride home with other droppe riders.

Think of it as the place the wannabes or hasbeens go to rot in a sea of dope.

Unfortunately I am one of those old toppies.  I will keep racing AL as long as I can.  I would qualify for VC next year, but enjoy the larger groups in AL.

Me too, normally race in VB when I'm on form.  Also VC next year.  Come join us!!

Beta used was 1.25..i don't agree but wtf that's the way it is.

by far the most difficult race I have done

I don't agree - I think it's fair. Think of it being 25% harder than ideal conditions - I know it's all related to the fun ride world champs.

How did you compare to the winning time under ideal conditions? Were you 25% slower?

If I look at my results (the aging penalties excluded), then the index value is about the same given the varying conditions of the races I've done. The Amashova had a few head winds but not as bad as R4V this year. The R4V in 2013 was 1.26, and I remember the wind was a howler that day too.

I am admittedly completely subjective on this , but if I look at the beta for 94.7 last year it was 1.45. I certainly believe the R4V was way tougher than the 94.7

Then the Berg an Dale of this year was 1.27, again I think the R4V was tougher than that one.

So, subjectively, I reckon the beta of 1.25 is not a fair indication of my hardship on the day.

still a mystery in how the determine the Beta. It was tough, and the worst conditions i've ever raced in. But it was a flat'ish race so can't really expect it to have a much higher Beta.

Another thing is the winners times was only 2 mins slower in 2016 vs 2015 so this could have be reason for them to not go too high.

If that was the 947 in those conditions then the Beta must be upwards of 2.00 ...

Don't forget the Elites did the same route as the rest of us, instead of the 150km they were supposed to.
