I'm on the consumer's side in this :-)

Agreed, you can flout laws, turn a blind eye to knowingly doing something wrong - but we live in a world now where the tide can turn very very quickly - get on the wrong side of a viral campaign and no amount of belated apology will help.

It doesnt really matter, because when I look at supplements I will pass up the USN stuff in favor of pretty much anything else.

Its mainly because of things like this and the fact that they have made many claims in the past that they could not back up. V02 max was a prime example.

Yip that is a prime example, while at university a few students put it to the test.

the other product was some oxygen rich water cant get to the name now but that wasn't long on the market.

personally I stick with Optimum Nutrition

Bliksem but you guys have got your pitchforks in for USN !! I'm definitely not punting USN here , but just curious if it is all supplement suppliers , or only the local ones ? You know , the ones that sponcer the most local races and are therefore the most well known ??? Cause I mentioned earlier in the treat that although I also fully agree with real food being the best , it is a bit difficult to go full throttle while chewing and swallowing at the same time , so I'M hoping there might be some other brand of substance that's locally available that might not be torched by the nutrition experts here on bike hub , so I can take a sip of "enter the holy grail her " and feel like I'm not being shafted , and yet get my nutritionist fill !!!!

If you need a protein bar rather have a pice of dry wors. For drinks I chuck sugar and a pinch of salt in my bottles. Lemon just cel for flavor. Instead of gels I use condensed milk mixed with espresso. Recovery drink is a raw egg beaten into milk with a spoon of sugar. Works just for me.

Not just USN. I don't believe in any of it.

pretty hard core man - I LIKE it! Like the Chuck Norris of nutrition.  USN has probably already filed a patent application for your recovery drink so bummer dude, you will have to pay them royalties if you want to continue to use it!

I bought a pack of bonk bottles I think they are called. Tri people use them. Got them from Tony Impey. A bottle takes half a tin of condensed milk with a double shot of espresso. It tastes amazing. I did try honey but it is expensive and burns my mouth in a strange way. If you don't like the coffee just use a bit of water or the condensed milk is too thick.

Condensed milk also has a little protein in it so good from that perspective as well.

so on the topic of claims and tangents .....

http://www.pvm.co.za/

"ethics in nutrition" ...... good marketting or valid claims?

I like that it almost reads as if they are open to debate on their products:

  • PVM Nutritional Sciences will not make irresponsible claims, directly or indirectly, which cannot be substantiated
  • PVM Nutritional Sciences will conduct its marketing and advertising campaigns in a responsible, truthful and tasteful manner and will ensure that no unsubstantiated claims are made implicitly through advertising campaigns

Cheap, quick and works !!

50-70g sugar

  • One litre of warm water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200ml of sugar free squash
  • Mix, cool and drink

The highlighted ingredient should been mandatory when taking in some of the claims supplement manufacturers put out there... :whistling:
