It's gonna be medals, people love their medals...

This is true....

At the WCE my friends son asked him where is the medal for the race and his dad showed him the license disc holder. His son promptly replied...."so you came last" haha

So far I have yet to see a cycle event where the entry fee does not justify what you are getting in return. Plus you get a reduced price if you enter early.

Slightly off topic, but this is how bad some events are :

Recently I got duped by the Alpha Zero Tunnel Run into paying R800 for a "once in a lifetime chance" to run though the Hugonote service tunnel. I would have been OK with it had it no been that a week later they announce

NEW ENTRIES RELEASED BY SPONSOR:

Due to time constraints in the manufacturing of the size dependent tops for the goody bags for the event, we have decided to close the R800 entries for the tunnel run.
We are pleased to announce that we will be accepting another 500 entries for a reduced price of R350, for which you will receive entrance to the tunnel run, a headlamp and 2 items from Novagen Pharma only.

I was and still am furious.  :cursing:

Event fees are definitely becoming a barrier to participation.

I'm on thin ice here because last year I was also very critical of the entry fee

But sitting on the other side of the fence this year I can mention a few things, absolutely nobody is getting rich from the entry fees (incl Chris Willemse as some people are thinking), all proceeds go towards the school and various community projects. In fact, if just half the volunteers bill half their time they spend on getting this thing of the ground the event will probably run at a loss.

The entry fees didn't increase from last year and even though its not cheap it is in line with many of the other races I have entered this year.

Can't hype the road race too much, I think anyone who have done it in the past know what they will be getting (except a bit more at the water points for those who stop).

The long distance mtb race will be a good day out, a lot of climbing for 65km, some interesting routes linking the various Tygerberg trails you won't get to ride the rest of the year, lots of waterpoints, riding through some of the farms & venues where the Sauvignon festival are hosted & the weather is going to play along - predicting a hot sunny day with not much wind. (some people might just forgive the organisers for the early starting time :whistling: ).

I am usually the first one to complain about entry fees. But I think this year its fair. The late fee is ridiculous, but the early entries are fine. Happy they are giving medals, my bike room can never have enough medals.

Doing the 45 mtb, route looks very interesting.

Oh yes, absolutely love the idea for the early starts. Please can this become a thing.

Great weather. Started in B. Saw some old faces with new bikes!

To the youngster that punctured, better luck next time.

One of the ladies also punctured. Thumbs up to her for raising her hand and controlling the situation. Well done.

Hope the A rider we saw on the deck is not hurt too badly. A speedy recovery we wish you.

Finish was fast and a bunch sprint. Lack of a headwind was missed. Or maybe not

Great race guys.

Had a big group with French flag colours in B. What is this clubs name?

One of them rolled a Kwiatkowski World Champ edition Spaz as well.

Have never seen those jerseys in the bunch before.

Was a joc and la perla cyclists. There were about 9 cyclists that went down in the incident. Ambulance seemed to take more than an hour to get there.
