Was a joc and la perla cyclists. There were about 9 cyclists that went down in the incident. Ambulance seemed to take more than an hour to get there.

PPA has become a joke, never has there been crashes like this before. A seeding is now a index of 10. 4 years ago it was 5. 10 was just in D. That is the caliber now of riders in A and never mind what is in B for example. Couple that with the Hillclimb TT where every funrider now has a A or B seeding is nothing short of a disaster waiting to happen. Crashes have shown this outright and there were never this many back then when there was the strong league.

This conversation was brought up on twitter this week and the person mentioning it made complete sense IMHO and is well respected from what I can see and what people tell me.

I have a A seeding from the Redhill TT, honestly I should never have it but I will take it.

PPA have no consideration or idea what they doing nowadays when it comes to rider seeding or safety. The 1 marshall told me today that the bunches in A and B are to big and the level of more than half should not be there. This is from a Marshall!!

What a beautiful day it was, the route was a lot harder than last year but it was well worth the entry fee. The early start was a good idea considering how hot it got and the 1700+m of climbing on the long MTB route. Would be nice if they can add a steady single track climb next to the quarry as most riders seem to have walked the rocky jeep track. Talk about a sting in the tail!

regarding the 'funride challenge' - this is the ppa league.

no backup team cars allowed and this is even when they have volunteered to be back up for all riders in the bunch - this is funride rules.

the A bunch was 150 strong this morning - this is way too big.

no race officials - this is funride rules

when i went past - and i rode in L bunch -  the fallen JOC rider was being looked after by a Light by Linea car and another gentleman, there was no one else there. apparently these 2 cars have taken it upon themselves to leapfrog the race and provide some sort of service to 'fallen riders' or 'mechanical service'.

i believe the 1st paramedic on the scene couldn't assist so he called for help - i saw an ER24 vehicle rushing in that direction which means that someone must have phoned them.

not a nice situation. you can bleed to death in a few minutes or die from a punctured lung - don't they get it.

I was one of them, but I wasn't as bad off. I figured im probably going to be treated last judging by the injuries there and luckily my bike was ok appart from some scratches. Hooked up with a group and limped home :(

Well started with a friend out of X bunch. Basically leap frogged bunches the entire race. I really enjoyed it to be honest. In my opinion if you are not in the top 3 started groups and at least in the mix for a top 5 result in that group then it is way more fun to just TT with a friend or 2 till the end. Much more satisfying than bunch riding and taking your odd turn up front. Good honest day in the saddle!!!

Incase you guys have forgotten the PPA does not reseed they only issue our Seeding Numbers. If anyone is to blame point the finger at Racetec. They provide PPA with Rider Seedings.

Was a good race. Found myself in FGH combined group and knew this is going to hurt, espesially with the amount of A B and C riders in the group. Hammer was down from the start. I, and most fellow H riders and some G riders were spat out across the course. Lukily the IJ group picked us up. I bonked badly just before the silos, and TT'ed homewards after some bananas at the Klipheuwel waterpoint.

There were about 4crash sites along the course. I seemed very very serious. It was from the DE group I heard. Hope the rider is ok.

Nice pics

That was a Tuff Tuff Tuff 69km's of Mountain Biking! My Achilles Heel,.."HEAT",..had the best of me today! Still had great fun, and glad I could broadside, beaten and broken, over the finish line in 4h23mins...or something >.<

Glad to finally hear something positive.

Moan moan and more moaning. Thanks PPA for organising races.

Have to agree, it was very good. I love the way they kept all the old favourites but added some fun new.

Thanks, sometimes I just have to stop and capture the moment to remember the experience. Excellent time, I took 10 minutes longer. They sure did not joke about the extra 500m of climbing this one had over last years route.
