Seems as if you're fibbing to yourself a bit here, swany. It has everything to do with someone else getting a deal before you or another person. If they didn't, you or that other person would have bought that "bargain" part and would have it for yourself.

There's buggerall wrong with buying something at way below market value and then reselling it yourself. You just seem hell bent on pushing your particularly jaded viewpoint onto all of us...

HAVE you lost out to Christmas in a deal? Were you too slow on the trigger? As soon as someone else has it, it's free game...

I have to agree with Myles here, fully.

Maybe limit the amount of free ads you're allowed to list per month before having to pay a "registered dealer fee".

So lets return to the OP original concern...

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/160060-rc3000-complete-frame/

vs

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/159870-raleigh-rc3000-frame-and-fork/

with a pm from the second seller under the first sellers ad :whistling:

NICE .  a real world example. i can't see the top Ad - it's been removed, but the seond one is a raleigh frame and fork for R800.

my opinion - if you're going to flip bikestuff here, you need to be adding value in some way. As a high volume trader, that could come with convenience of purchase, larger range of 2nd items or some sort of verification check on parts/warranty.

If none of the above, then you're just cruising here snooping up the bargains. if you can support yourself on it, well done for you.

so is buying and selling for profit a "thing" now on the hub?

I remember when joining a few years ago that it was a place to find decent deals on good condition kit to build or upgrade your own bike, or to let go of items you have laying around that are surplus without reaming the buyer. Now it seems that when good deals come along they are snapped within seconds and a few days later appear for sale again at a much higher price.

Please point out if im wrong or treading on thin ice but i dont think its how it is supposed to be

*rant off*

This was the original question

It was something i noticed whilst

1. looking for a new bike to start off again

2. looking at frames and components for an SS build.

That was in a period of about two weeks, and 9 times out of 10 items that were advertised had already been provisionally sold, too bad and move on. Then couple days later its like deja vu with the same items but at higher prices.

It has got nothing to do with who got there first, who bought what, but rather what happens after the fact. obviously it is fair game once you have purchased said item and can do with it what you please.

The original post did not contain names or specific adds as i did not want to make a huge issue and merely wanted to gauge the views of the fellow hub members

Be that as it may it seems there are those that do mind it and those that don't

Cool, subject clarified

That i don't agree with the fashion it is being done.

Anyway, seems its ok by most of the responses so that's where we leave it

It also doesn't sit well with me, but just because I dont like it doesnt mean that its wrong. So nobody is fighting here, I am sort of on your side.

Out of interest, in what fashion should it be done, for it to be deemed ok?

Is there such a way...I sure don't know?

Im not sure either but the dude said he doesnt like the current way, so I am asking him what way he would be ok with...

How does it work with the current commercial sellers? i honestly do not know the rules but i would think that if you buy and sell at volume privately you need to register as a "commercial" trader.

What difference will it make in your life if the person registers or doesnt.

They would still buy the things you want, mark it up and sell it....?

Naah, that's not gonna make any difference to anything....

Is a free market.. and if people do not like how things are done, then they do not have to buy here... there is always your LBS, gumtree, OLX and even ebay to name a few!!

I know people in the UK who do similar on ebay as a sideline business (and do very well out of it), buy on ebay and then resell, lots of items are on auction so you can get a real bargain and then have the luxury of selling at a fair price not via an auction.... it is so much of a business sideline you can get ebay sniper programs to bid on your behalf right up to the last second before the auction closes, you just put in your max bid and the sniper will automatically up your bid for you if you are outbid up to your limit.  Don't believe me just google ebay sniper.  Here is one http://auctionsniper.com/

It does not only happen here, but everywhere... it is a fact of life, so suck it up and move on

if you missed out on a bargain, then tough... perhaps you will be quicker on the next one
