Giant warranty claim

Ok cool.....a bb is cheap. But it's the principle of the matter. What if Giant decides to scrap 29ers? They aren't expected to keep stock of every frame ever made. So they don't have any 29ER frames in stock. They give you a 650b and wash their hands. Suddenly you have to cough up R10k for a new fork, wheels and tyres. Thats not a small price to pay for a new frame?

I know someone who had to pay in R2k for a new shock because his replacement frame used a different sized shock. Eventually he had to settle for a hardtail because he could not afford the new shock. No it wasn't a Giant.

Enjoy the One Ton tomorrow.

I know :]

It does how ever get to a tipping point where ideally one shouldn't pay for the parts.

I would also be very upset if I was charged for a warranty rebuild.

Thanks :]

Look at the up side you get a new frame and with a rebuild, typically any little issues like lube, cleaning,  etc are taken care of. It takes some time and skill to rebuild a bike and if the manufacturer doesn't reimburse the cycle shop, it is only fair that they should be compensated for their time, tools and expertise.

I generally do mine myself, but on occasion have had the bike shop do it, on those occasions I have insisted on paying.

According to Dragon Sports, they only pay for the frame, not parts and/or labour.  That is their (probably Giant's) international policy.  They even don't expect the dealer to pay for the labour,  they want the client to pay.

But if you have a warranty claim on a car, you pay nothing...

..........But if you have a warranty claim on a car, you pay nothing.......

And that is why no car maker offers a lifetime warranty to the original owner on any part of any of their cars!

Unless you want the wheel alignment done, or the tyres needs changing, or you chip the windscreen, or the exhaust needs replacement...

Because of the frame, I might need a new bb (which is 6 months old).

In 6 months I do about 5000 km on my MTB. Will you be satisfied with a 6 month old BB on your new frame or would you take a new one (and get the fork, shock and hubs serviced while the bike is in the shop). I think you are nitpicking and if you have this attitude in a shop doing a warrantee claim on a bike bought elsewhere, they'd probably be happy to see you leave and take your business elsewhere.

it's still a wear and tear item

Perhaps they should swop put the old pivots for the new ones on the replacement. Pivots are not a warrantee item after all...

oooooh.... may need a new fork as well. Wasn't 2013 the dreaded OD2?

(hint - if so, you can just get a newer upper headset assembly. Cheap as chips)

2012 was the last year on OD2.

Had my frame replaced in January (Giant) took it to another shop from where i bought it so the rebuild charge was never a question to me, but i ended up replacing my whole cockpit and they discounted me the rebuild cost in the end.

I agree parts are not part of the warranty unless they are within warranty and are a specific part of the "back on the road service ".

At the end of the day a warranty is designed to get you back on the road with like for like. Obviously there is a reasonable time period.

Most bike manufacturers only offer one year on the parts fitted (whereas if you buy groupsets it's up to three years)

If frame fails within warranty of the parts then any parts that are not transferable should form part of the back on the road service.

If frame fails outside of warranty of parts but within warranty of frame then I would agree parts are for your account.

In this case I'm wondering why the bb needed to be changed cos I'm not aware of giant altering the bb shell design so recently. They Neen bb92 for a while
