NicoBoshoff Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I'm running the Kalbo Z-ring and spacers. Sorted my chainline on my 11 speed and solid chain retention with only the clutch to assist. Rode the Ezelduro (probably the rockiest, gnarliest gravity race in the country) and chain stuck like snot. Good product, good service. Happy customer. (P.s. Kalbo I haven't forgotten that kind offer of yours )
Martin PJ Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 My local bike mechanic told me to stay away from 1 x conversions as I mostly ride hardpack grondpad marathon type stuff and very seldom go onto a trail. He said I will loose a lot of topend speed...I dont want to go slower as I am already a bloody tortoise, but then again averaging 30 on a straight and have the gears there to stick it to rolling hills is enough for me. Downhills I dont mind spinning out ...fo obvious reasons. I would like to shave off some grams off my bike and clean up the bar. I have 34T in front and it spins out at around 45 km/h. Only once I had a problem when I was bunch riding in an MTB race on a tar road. I still did not get dropped though. If you watch guys ride single speed MTB and they keep up with you while you are on the rivet, then spinning out the 1x10 should not worry you. If you want to change, then go for it. You won't be sorry.

I dont want to set a precedent for them, but I received unexpected feedback from them over a weekend and a very quick dispatch on the Monday morning. Highly recommended.
quintonb Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I've just pulled the trigger to convert my 3x 10 Speed XT to 1x.Chatted to Colin and he was super helpful.Getting a 32 Chain Ring, 42 Expander, 16 Filler Sprocket and 4x 2.5mm Spacers to get the correct chain line.Will collect tomorrow sometime. Once fitted I will give some feedback, nervous, but everyone I have spoken to says I wont regret it. Lets see..
