Garmin Connect vs Strava?

Hi guys - I've used Garmin Connect for a while and really like it. GC keeps trying to make me go to Strava which I have now done, but I really don't like it; it seems I now have to have yet another application on my phone and in my web browser to keep track of progress, etc, where I'd prefer to stick with the GC thing I know and love. So - what is the difference and, with a 30 day free trial of Strava Premium which came with my 810 (which I bought ages ago, but is still available) why would I/should I stick with Strava at 70 NZ dollars a year vs the free and much loved (by me) GC? Opinions please...

Once you go strata you never go back. You do not need to go premium on strava you can use the free package.

It's a much better site for analyzing your rides. Garmin connect I find not useful at all.

Hi

If you prefer GC stay with GC.

Strava is like GC mixed with Facebook, so it more social as you can "compete" against your mates.

Basically Strava is so popular, GC were more or less forced to connect to Strava to keep users happy.

Almost everything you see in GC has been inspired by Strava.

Use what's best for you.... End of story.

I use both, but Strava is my main tool for training. GC is good for making courses etc.

It's like Mac or PC, use what you prefer and forget about what other people are using.

Ride on!

Used GC for years before strava, Loved it. Then strava came along, for a short while I used to use both and analyse stats from both. Now I upload with communicator and it goes to both but I cant actually remember the last time I logged onto GC. Strava is just so much cooler.

Yip. I live Strava. Free version is great but I've paid for premium. The ability to quickly download GPX files and all the added stats make it worth it in my mind. It's he only tool I now use for exercising. Has very good API integration as well for 3rd party collectors like medical aids, myfitnesspal etc.

Must admit that I like Strava Premium...

I continuously get offered 30 day free premium trials. I've activated it a couple of times and then just cancel it again....no charge.

I NEVER use the extra features mostly because I always forget about them

Wanted to see... Also cos it has HR data, but then after buying it, seeing that the HR data recording capability only extends to iPhone apps. No Android ANT+ support (my HR strap is ANT+ and my phone supports it)

I've got the Fenix now to get around that...

yes but you need to ride to get that data....

I use both. I only upload with Garmin and then it automatically uploads to Strava. I mostly use GC but occasionally I check out Strava, to see if I've made any PR's. But I prefer the data layout in GC. I use the free Strava. I wouldn't pay for it. Use both. You don't have to choose.
