Dick, not everybody is the same. Metabolic rates and so on (also stored fat reserves  :whistling: )

So a few guys like you can ride 100km without refueling, but the majority of the riders out there do need to eat.

As I said in my original post, a minor gripe / rant that there was no food at the first two points, but it was mostly my fault as I did not have any food on me, and relied on getting food at the waterpoints.

Clearly I was wrong, and I unreservedly apologises to everybody for arriving at the race unprepared and expected (unrealisticaly, it seems) that one of the premier races on the calendar would supply food at their waterpoints.

SORRY FOR BEING SO DEMANDING AND UNREALISTIC.

STOP CRUSIFYING ME NOW!!!!! :whistling:

If anything, the orginisers just need to communicate a little better. A short circular stating something like:

Hi guys, the start venue is riddled with thorns, so be careful when doing your warm-ups.

Remember to wear your timing chips.

Carry your own spares

Emergency number is on the front of your board if you are in the kuc. so take your phone along just in case.

Water points at KmXX Km YY and Km ZZ will stock water and coke only, supply your own food.

Shuttles at start to take your mom and granny to the finish and back (but no bike shuttles). so let mom keep your clean civvies for the showers afterwards.

Remember the sun block and keep it safe out there.

Pack cash for a boerie and coolie afterwards.

I did not do this ride this year, but have to ask why you would need solid food at a waterpoint on a 55km ride. Maybe on something over 100 km maybe. Damn, do you even need waterpoints on a 55km ride?

I am not a racing snake, but on most funrides under 100km I seldom use any waterpoints.  And Goodie Bags Hu? They are a waste of time in in most cases.

You must be a freak of nature, bottle yourself and sell it off you can make a mill!

You sure you are not a pro rider?

Me, I am fat and sweat like a racing horse in heat during the summer months in a desert, the last time i did the 55km argus it was still at boschendal and it was HOT the day. I drank something like 6 bottles of rehidrate/energy drink mix and refilled my 3l camelback. That excludes all the cups of coke/energade at the waterpoints as well.

I enjoy doing the Saturday Routes, quite a big difference riding a 650B over 26er. 28 overall so was very happy with that, also no Bike computer so I was just riding with no idea really how far I was in the 30KM until I saw boards marked.

Fine black dust did a number on my front forks, all stodgy by end of race and my sinuses were shot! Bike was easy to sort out as that went straight to shop on way home, sinus was bit more difficult to cure

Well now its time to tapper and get ready for CTCT.

So say at Attakwas you will only use waterpoints after 100km? you are a machine, how do you get it right?

I'm a bit in 2 minds about this - on the one side, yes mtb'ers should harden up and be able to ride say 30km on their own devices without having 2 restaurant stops with full spreads. (especially if you regard yourself as good enough to enter a 55km event)

On the flipside, given that the organisers have already gone through the effort to set up a waterpoint, it really is not that hard or expensive to just add sweets & bananas and everybody should be happy. Other races are doing it and this one is not exactly cheap.

Well...let's not forget people enter the 30km because the 45 may be beyond their limit. So their exertion over 30km might be yours over 55...Hence they need the restuarant too

when I enter CTCT MTB challenge I expect something to nibble on at the waterpoints. I carry my own stuff and could have easily finished the 55km without having to refuel. but that watermelon at the third stop was just too yummy to past.

Communication is key here, then folks can plan accordingly. different riders have different nutrition requirements.

Fair enough, if the waterpoint was also for the shorter distances then there should have been something to eat, like I said, they have already done most of the effort by setting up the waterpoint, adding something to eat is not hard.

Edit - it's just that it is not the 30km entrants who are complaining
