With Deore Brakes etc. Its a Normal Bicycle and not these R100000+ bikes some the teams buy before the Epic.

Just go to show that any decent MTB will or can do the Epic, no need to spend millions of $$$$ on a mtb.

Enjoyed the stage today. Great conditions in Wellington this morning, cool and misty with some climbing thrown in. A lot less banter, riders are tired. The mother of the climbs today was Limietberg followed by another up and around the prison (I think, didn't see the prison. Nose was on the stem most of the climb). Spectacular views of the mountain in and around Stellies. Keeping focussed with finish in sight. Cooler conditions definitely making it easier.

Great stuff!  Tomorrow will be even cooler.  You are almost there.  Now you just need to look after the bike and the body and not crash.

There will be a few drops of rain through the night, which will hopefully just settle the dust, but not nearly enough to cause mud, so I believe tomorrow will be the most awesome day conditions wise.

I'm also disappointed that Kevin Vermaak didn't hit the tents like the majority of riders who paid R65k for 8 days of solid afk@k. I have a lot of respect for guys in the tents and still finished, that's hardcore in my books.

I suspect that if he was tenting we'd find something else to undermine his achievement in riding this Epic. What are the others again? No massages? Cold showers? His tent was in the shade in Wellington? No tubeless? Riding a 26er Giant Boulder with a Deore 3x9? He didn't pick Os du Randt as his riding partner? Lets get creative! It's mos Friday [emoji12]

On the locals not 'performing' take a look at the GC. Plenty of local teams doing very well, USN Purefit and NAD particularly. Along with some amateur teams also giving it horns.
It is an international event with a variety of nationalities on the start line.
This same self depreciating argument comes up every year, with little real basis.

Ok, I'm extremely impressed. S-works epic, sleeping in the uncomfortable camper vans and not his own bed at home, eating epic food and massages with all the others and what not....he's my hero, hardcore to the bone. Great achievement.

Yes it comes up every year and every year our locals get ridden into the ground. Our local heroes are only able to win local races against the weekend warriors or am I wrong?

Doing well in GC is not as good as being regularly on the podium. Every time an opinion is raised about how swak our local pro's are all the hero worshippers come to their defence. Their defence will be that I'm just an armchair weekend warrior. True, agreed, I am.

They still suck and I am truly sorry to say that, I would much rather want to rave about them making the visitors bleed on each and every stage. We all know this is not happening, it's the opposite.

Bad luck SM, that must be extremely frustrating. Was this your first CE?

A few years ago I got food poisoning from one of those Woolworth sammies they hand out at the stage end each day, luckily I had the whole night to recover.

Luckily I have a finish under my belt which somewhat takes the sting off a bit. Everyone is dealing with some issues, I was just a little unlucky.

Still having fun!

Like about half the field... He is currently 187th. Not exactly bringing up the rear. It would be interesting to rank him amongst novice riders to see where he place eventually.

Just saw this on Twitter...

It seems that the field consists of 100% males?

Only 91% of the males taking part are really male?

9% of the female field is actually male?

Interesting stats this...

The feelings doing this race have some balls!!!
