I saw that.  I did the points calculation that they have that you can check before you do your EOI and I get 125, so with a job offer, I should be in relatively easily.  It's just the whole figuring out which side of the pond I'm going to bail to.

Yeah 125 pits you in the pool to be selected to apply. 140 points is an automatic invitation to apply (if I remember correctly). And a job offer counts for about 60 points.

If you get a job offer, you should qualify for a Work to Residence visa, which means yuo bypass the whole EOI process.

What is the job security like in NZ?

And also, how is the work/life ratio?  Are they go-go-go all the time with work or more relaxed like SA?

I'd say its relaxed like Cape Town. A lot of things happen on "island time". Having said that, a lot of things are significantly more efficient than SA, for example most of the civil service. If you want go-go-go you're more likely to find that in Sydney or Melbourne.

Work/life balance will really depend on your job, and is probably a little worse in Auckland than the rest of the country (mostly because of hours wasted commuting). I can't comment further since I work from home for an American company, and only 35 hours a week.  :whistling:

Said it before and I will say it again.

Free lodging and use of a car for any hubber that wants to come out here.

You just have to pass the "dont be a dick" test.

Work/life balance is very good - I work for a lot of Kiwis, fishing comes first, then family, then work. But when it's time to work, it is time to work.

On job security, people here don't think of jobs the same as they do in SA. Plenty folk will quit a job before finding another, just to take a few months off, or because the job isn't right for them, or whatever - confident that they will find another. That's on the one hand, on the other, employers can't 'hire and fire' - but that isn't really anything any competent person has to worry about.

Wife got confirmation this morning that she got the job she was applying for. The company will even do her work Visa for her.

Sweet deal!

I think it helps a lot when the company sorts it all out. I've been fortunate in that regard.

Thats the best way for them to meet you. They want to know that you are serious about going over.
