Haha.

Ja. You okes think you have problems. At least you have slow, middle, and fast lanes.

We have slow, f*** you, and F*** you very much lanes.

From right to left. That's pretty accurate actually.

Firstly. Lane splitting on a bike is perfectly legal. It's not particularly safe but that's mainly because motorists tend to be more interested in Facebooking, Instagramming and Twattering than actually driving.

Also. Whilst lane splitting, most bikers are aware of the other bikers and allow the bikers that are lane splitting faster than them through. Usually with a kick of the right leg which basically means I've seen you. Take me on the right.

And I thought lane splitting was a crazy idea - overtaking whilst lane splitting.... What could go wrong??

Not a jab at bikers - just seems mad to have that many vehicles in such close proximity all at different speeds....

That said - the idea of having cars travelling in opposite directions at 100kph separated by only a 3 inch wide painted white line doesn't make much sense either...

M. Personally I look for a wide gap between 2 cars, pull in there and let the faster guy through.

I'm k@k scared of lane splitting myself and I won't be intimidated into going faster than I'm comfortable with by anyone else.

Sleeveless vests makes you drive ***.

If you think MTBers cant drive on roads, you must see the chaos they cause when they bring those knobbly bikes with broomstick handles bars onto the tar, now that is a spectacle!

Aren't all vests sleeveless...?

Otherwise its just a shirt...

I do drive a dark grey amarok, I was on the N1 , I do own a mtb,, but no it wasn't me, I just apologized on behalf of the other guy who is clearly compensating as most would say about anyone who drives a bakkie,

BH I jumped in because I want to hear 1 person who has not ONCE nearly not done the same thing for Any number of reasons, all you high horse riding drivers you wanna tell me you have NEVER EVER THOUGHT " **** that was dumb, close, what was I thinking??""""

I always laugh when everyone on their high horses look at the makes of cars and jump to conclusions about personalities and driving habits, everyone has lapses in concentration some more than others but really????AS IF EVERYONE ELSE DRIVES FAULTLESSLY

Hey man. I'm a motorist, Mountain Biker, Occasional Road Cyclist and Motorcyclist. I commute on a motorcycle from time to time.

You seen to be slightly misinformed on the laws around bikes.

Keep left, Pass right and all that.

Legal or not. If you split lanes at 140km/h when traffic moves at 30km/h you'll collect your Darwin Award sooner rather than later.

You might give the N1 inbound motorists a bit to much credit with 30km/h :whistling:

At a 20km/h against 40-50km/h motorbike, I found, to my surprise, that filtering is not much more dangerous than commuting with a bicycle. But then I'm s**t scared & definitely one of the slowest 'filterati'

Ja. 1000% agree with you. My lane splitting speed limit is 45. Thereafter I behave like a car and fit in. The real advantage on a bike for me is you get to the front of the queue at the traffic lights. Invariably there will be some twerp in a Polo GT who thinks he can run with a bike.

Despite the fact that in SA there's a few Ferrari's and a handful of Porsche's that can run with a Superbike.

I've not found specific numbers in terms of allowable speeds but Arrive Alive reckons the speed differential should be no more than 20.

Waiting for a thread like this to pop up next:

"Some **** on a motorcycle kept abreast of me, not giving me space, yet saw there was a stationary vehicle in my lane. Being in my Amarok I had to move into his lane to avoid an accident. Noob almost damaged my Pyga (which is worth more than his scooter)!! :cursing: "

 :P

so i imagine you would have the Amarok straighten the line and take the hit for the team ?

What should he have done ? Not swerve to miss the stationary car ?

A stationary vehicle in the fast lane causes havoc fast  for everyone , it is not a third force with an anti agenda

It's the confidence an MTB gives.

I am constantly disappointed in my car's ability to: hop up kerbs, ramp speed bumps, drift around corners, ride on the gravel when the emergency lane becomes too narrow and do skids on grass.

So in actual fact, it's not MTBers that are bad drivers. It's just that we need better cars.

But I guess until I can afford one of these and truly exercise my MTB abilities in a 4-wheeled powered vehicle, I will be seen as a bad driver.

A 100cc scooter will thrash most cars from a standing start.

As for lane splitting, TB says up to 30 is ok - just depends what you're comfortable with. I'm on the side of avoiding ***.
