yah, but what if my workout would have giving me more points than the simple swipe...

If you wear a hrm when you do the workouts and do over 30mins you will get more points than swipe.

I wear my hrm when I spin on the wattbike, I also wear it when on the treadmill.  Both of these are connected to my 910XT which are uploaded to garmin and strava and get additional points over just swiping my card on entering the gym.

As for your comment about entering distance if you use a smart watch like the apple it will record your steps and distance from the inbuilt accelerometer.  Else buy a foot pod to record distance when on the treadmill.

When I spin on the wattbike, I took the time and effort to set up a bike 2 profile to collect all the Ant+ data from the wattbike to my Garmin 910xt, same as I would collect the speed/cadence/power and heart rate when out on my bikes.  It records distance and all other data

On the treadmill, I run with a HRM and footpod, which records my distance, cadence, steps per minute, speed and heart rate etc.

Each of these activities is uploaded and over 30mins so get the extra points for using a device with hrm and am in the gym !!

So what are you currently recording your workouts on? phone, specific sports watch or smart watch.

It only takes a small amount of effort to organise things to work for you.... but it seems you want someone else to do this for you

Ok, so the last statement - uncalled for... ? I am just trying to learn from others experience before I take the leap...

Let my spread it out.

I am trying to figure out if it would be worth will for me to get the Discovery watch deal taking into account my training style and the new point system for 2016

Due to the fact that I work from 6h30 to 18h00/19h00 every weekday and most saturdays (in addition to studying at least 2 hours every evening) - trainging outside is hard

So I wanted to make sure that I would be able to get more than the base "show up to the gym" points while using the apple watch (as I do not have one yet)

I currently use an iPhone 5 with HRM strap on my chest

My question was thus : do anyone of you know which apps have more options than run/cycle and also link to discovery

I didnt know the watch will be able to count steps - thats a plus point...

If your HRM links to your iphone and heart rate data shows on strava, this should give you the points you need for a general gym workout.  As someone else said, on the app record it as a run and just edit activity type later - from a points perspective it doesn't matter as long as you have done x minutes at x hear rate.

That said, I reckon for you the apple watch is not a bad idea as will make all this easier (esp since gather you don't have a garmin or other fitness device).  the apple watch will sort hear rate data, and for those days when you are not gyming but just being generally active / on your feet, you will get some points based on your step count.

Hi Shaper, pls help how do you do this?  I fiddled around once before and didn't come right.  Also have a 910xt and use the wattbikes at the VA (so can't always get the same bike but have set up a profile on a couple of them)..

Yes we all work and have full time commitments and fitting training around work, family etc for such things as triathlons is also very time consuming.

However my self like others have taken the time and effort to look at the awards point system as discovery vitality members and worked out what is needed to achieve the points based on what the points criteria are..... and for most healthy and active individuals this is 1200, at present time although this is changing in January... so for me it is a minimum of 30 minutes at over 70% heart rate to get 200 points 6 times a week... else fit in a parkrun and can have an easy week unless am doing race when one race will hit the points.

There is no great science in in... is all explained and will be easier explained next year... refer back to some of Gerald's post where he highlights the points system for next year... else go to the discovery webpage.... this is what the rest of us have been doing!!

For me, I am garmin everything and android, so the apple watch does not make sense as will need an iphone, else try to flog the watch... but have seen many already for sale and no takers (why would you buy one when you can get for free if you hit the rewards)

Personally I would wait until the new points structure is in place and then see how easy you can reach the rewards to see if the gimmick of the watch is worth it.

If you need to hit the 200 points per gym session and want to have on your screen app the distance you traveled rather than the inconvenience of 30 seconds to input the data yourself, buy a bluetooth/ANT+ footpod for less than R500, and/or and ANT+ dongle for the iphone

Else google the iwatch and see what functions are useful to you if any.

Is what everyone else has done who wants to know whether the offer and proposed awards system will work for them

I have read all that was said on this tread regarding the points system...2015 and 2016

I just wanted to confirm (from someone using the apple watch) on how they log their workouts (now I have learnt that I can log it as a run and edit later) and I am happy with the answer that I got

so dont come with "However my self like others have taken the time.." when you don't even take the time to read what my actual question was.

To make it more clear - The hubs general experience is based on cycling activities. I thus were apprehensive in translating that experience directly to my situation... thus the reason for my questions - not because I did not read

Set up a profile under bike settings for bike 2 (just for wattbike)

look here

Problem is that when you do it this way, it often comes up as multiple power meters detected as there are 2 or 3 bikes next to each other.

Still do automatic search and you may be lucky to get the correct wattbike.  You can check this by noting the large number at the bottom center of the watbike LCD screen (just ignore all the zeros at the beginning).

Go to settings/bike settings/bike 2/ Ant+Spd/Cad/more/sensor details ... the number there should correspond with the number without the zeros, if not hit enter and you can manually change the number to that of the wattbike ant+ sensors

Once they match hit mode to go back and repeat the same process for the Ant+Power sensor details to check that they all match the wattbike you are on.

One more thing, when you switch on the watch and change to bike mode, when the watch shows it is searching for satellites, hit the enter button and will ask you whether is is for indoor mode, hit yes.

I usually do all this whilst doing my warmup... then hit just ride or workouts to start your wattbike session and hit start on the watch and you should get same data on the watch as you get on the screen.

If you managed to get on the same wattbike the next time you wont need to go through this process... else if is not the same wattbike then will need to make sure your watch is reading that bikes sensors which you can check or manually change to the number at the centre bottom of the LCD screen

I trust this is explained well enough and helps :)

Firstly, we took time... you were offered information of what apps to consider and what to use... your response was another crappy app that does not do what I want it to do.... without investigating yourself but relying on others to do it for you... and hoping for the miracle app... and when it wasn't dismissed their suggestion accordingly

Others and myself included have advised many ways to get the points and basically if you want to maximise the points no matter what you do wear a HRM for everything.

Further we have had to ask you what workouts you do as you failed to say so and expected hubbers to give you it on a plate without explaining yourself or your requirements.

You were then advise how best to achieve that for both treadmill, spinning and circuit when based in the gym to maximise your points none of which were cycling related ... you become dismissive because you need to do some investigation yourself

So yeah I will come with objective point of view that others have had to do some research.. you have been pointed in the right direction... so go do some research yourself.

But if you read what information has been given to you the answers are all there!!

If you use a flash drive doesn't it save a file with your profile/settings so if you use another bike you just plug in the flash drive and it reads that file and applies the settings to that bike? The flash will also save your training session when you are done.

Yes you can use a flash drive plugged into the back of the head unit and set up your profile and save all your workouts to the flash drive, then download to Golden Cheetah of whatever software you want to use or even Wattbikes own software.  I think you can also export that data to Garmin Connect

Cheers, yes perfectly - so nothing needs to be done on the wattbike itself (sensors always broadcasting)...    the only hack is having to repeat the process each time assuming you can't always get the same bike..

Yes that is correct, If am not on the same wattbike then i just manually set the watch sensor settings to that of the bike sensors ID's, the number at the center bottom of the LCD screen ... takes a minute of 2 and do it whilst warming my legs up.

Else as also suggested, take a memory stick, plug it into the back of the LCD head unit, set up your profile.. and then save to USB stick when finished.  Then it doesn't matter what bike you use, as you load your user settings from USB each time and save back to USB which you can then export to GC or view the info on the Wattbike Expert software

Nope - that did not happen... i downloaded strava (and other apps) and tried for about 2 hours last night to figure out how I will be able to use it... I my response to Cpt armpies I did say Strava would not help me - because at that time I did not know you cannot amend the workout afterwards (as he kindly pointed out aftewards). I did not dismess any suggestions otherwise...

Others and myself included have advised many ways to get the points and basically if you want to maximise the points no matter what you do wear a HRM for everything.

And now I understand that and am happy that I know - thx

Further we have had to ask you what workouts you do as you failed to say so (I stated this in my first question on the previous page and have again repeated it as clear I can possible 3 times -  #979, #990, #995 - you are just making things up) and expected hubbers to give you it on a plate without explaining yourself or your requirements.

You were then advise how best to achieve that for both treadmill, spinning and circuit when based in the gym to maximise your points none of which were cycling related ... you become dismissive because you need to do some investigation yourself (i became dismissive because you were being a dwis for no reason at all out of the blue)

So yeah I will come with objective point of view that others have had to do some research.. you have been pointed in the right direction... so go do some research yourself. (Already happened - i asked - got answered - investigated and then I had more questions, because may research could not be implimented as I do not have the watch yet, thus I could not do it myself)

But if you read what information has been given to you the answers are all there!!

(and I have already in this here thread said that... I actually wrote it down...)

I have taken the time to reply just because I cannot fathom why you are so hostile to me just asking questions and trying to figure out something...

EDIT: please note that I did take note of your advice - and I do appreciate the time taken to share the info - i just dont understand the hostility...

Interesting, I am finding that on my iphone discovery has linked to the health app and now each day I get a little extra 50 or so points for steps.

So with a ride in the morning I am getting 250 points a day, so only need to ride 5 times instead of 6.

Most of my steps happen while I am riding

I almost went to a park run the other day, then I realised I own a bike and should not be stupid.
