Well - we really f..ed up a few things - fortunately nothing too toxic.... adapt or die as they say:

Sent WP4 box off from registration of Friday with spare batteries, emergency warm and dry kit etc

Packed WP2 and 3 boxes for shipment the next day but one thing let to another and we arived at the drop off 40 seconds after the truck left (actrually saw it pulling out as we arrived)

No big deal - put a few more things in pockets and off we go....

Get to WP4 and chasing light to get down the hill, somehow we forgot that was the final box pickup point.... and we figured it out at WP5 after asking where the boxes were... and many blank stares later we got the message... turn around or forget it....

So we rode from 5 using 1 light at a time where possible (no spare batteries) and that worked out fine - I was pretty confident my light would last till the end on low power and it did - fortunately only about 3 hours of riding in the dark, so it worked out well in the end.

Lessons learned:

1 - BOTH partners must read the instructions

2 - there is a route profile sticker.... (fortunately 1 of us had one... not me)

3- If you plan to be under 12 hours, then it's probably not neccesary to pack a spare battery for anything except a failure

4 - ITB hurts.... never had any issues on that knee ever, but fell off 10 days ago and gave it a knock, so that's probably the root cause, although it was not giving trouble at the time, it did cause me to pedal up the top half of MAC with basically 1 leg, and then suffer all the way home - now struggling to walk up and down stairs...

Still - all in all a good ride - not sure it's really my iea of fun riding, so not in any hurry to go back.

Re. ITB - we had this discussion before... I think in one of "knee op threads".

I had the same symptoms doing 361 MTB race. Basically you were over compensating too much with your strong leg it eventually gave in i.e. ITB started contracting, does this sound about right?

Not really - started the race with a bruise on the knee over the itb from a small crash last weekend - think it just wasn't good enough for the ride really - physio says he can see the bruise from the crash still - scab still in place and it's perfectly positioned to cause the trouble - also - My other leg is my dominant leg.. :)

The tendon now has audible crepitus- so now the fight starts to get it back to working again and pain free

Good luck with that hey, horrible thing to have to sort out, its months of physio or a small opp and neither are fun...

I did sunday a 9h30m ride (196Km) Cradle, Maropeng , Satellite, skeerpoort , van gaalens, breeds , magalies , Sterkies and back to cradle in preparation for TB2 ( 2566 m accent)

One sure thing I have learnt and this were also mentioned earlier in this topic . . . Ride from checkpoint to checkpoint . . .  " if you have 200 ml water left you carry too much"

In preparation , I was keen on having all "extras" with on my ride however with all the strategic checkpoints on TB , i will only have the necessities.

I am looking forward to this weekend !!!

Transbaviaans 2016 was on another level, the conditions is different each year. Willowmore Koshuis was our home for the Friday evening and as always the koshuis eetsaal vibes is the best. My advise to the teams doing TB 2 is manage your time at the check points that's what worked for our team this year. I was so happy to receive my 1000+shield with two of my team members next year we will return for the other member to receive his shield.  I'm already looking forward to the next five years for my 2000+ shield with Team BHB.

Well done to you.  We received it together - I'm also aiming for the 2000+ one now. Already looking forward to Trans Baviaans 2017! Good luck to all those riding this coming weekend.

What an absolutely fantastic day out! Rode probably 3 hours longer than we expected, but the water points were so good that we spent in total about 3 hours there! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

That sunset over Bergplaas en the climb before it was just amazing!

My partner, probably being the youngest in the field was an absolute machine! She never stopped smiling ALL THE WAY, even after needing oxygen at Bergplaas. She even sang for us up Never Ender!

We will DEFINITELY be back, even after all that!

Riding MAC with a 34t in front and 11-42 combo at the back was a challenge!! ^_^  :whistling:  :whistling:

I still have a triple chain ring on my MTB - 44-34-22 with an 11-34 at the back.

At checkpoint 3 one of the bike marshals commented that my partner and I definitely had the most interesting bikes he'd seen so far - hard tails with Lauf forks, and a "roadie groupset". WTF?? Wasn't sure if it was an insult, a compliment, or just ignorance ;)

(I survived MAC in the middle blade, although I was tempted by the 22 several times! It's more a security blanket than something I actually use!)

What an awesome Trans Baviaans it was. This was my 5th and in all the years I have never seen the road like this. Very dry and VERY corrugated and at places washed away. A bit dangerous at some places too. The first 100km is hard on the body. Hard on the bike too. I regard myself extremely fortunate for not having to go single speed!!!

Blessed are those with full suspension although for me I'm not sure it helped must! The 2nd Fang is a killer! Good luck to those riding this

weekend. Enjoy the race.

IIRC she served her ban of 11 months from March 2015 to Jan 2016, so she is surely clear to compete again? I recall that they found traces of hydrochlorothiazide which she explained as medication she took for high blood pressure? I'm no expert here, can someone remember the full story?

oh, thanks.. I guess that makes sense. Sadly the Stigma remains after the ban has been served

Well done!!  I was permanently in 34-42 and my right hand thumb was continuously searching for a lighter gear!!! I MISSED MY GRANNY!!  .....a 32t in front for MAC would have suited me better......but then again, I would have lost a lot of top speed going into the Baviaans!! :whistling:  (Guess, I just need to get a bit more stronger..... ^_^ ).
