Seatpost slipping

Guys im at the end of my tether here.

My alu Anthem has an alu seatpost and I cant get the damn thing to stop slipping down, it normally moves side to side a little then start slipping.

Things I have done so far:

1. Cleaned the inside of the seat tube and cleaned seatpost, applied carbon assembly paste to both.

2. Cleaned the inside of the seat tube and cleaned seatpost, applied a lot of carbon assembly paste to both.

3. Cleaned the inside of the seat tube and cleaned seatpost, tried it just plain dry.

Im at the point where Im going to take some sandpaper to the seatpost to try and remove a little of the anodizing but failing that Im not sure what to do.

I have used a clamp type collar which I had to tighten until stuff nearly broke to keep it in place but I really dont think that is the solution.

Any suggestions?

I have a friend that has the same problem, after alot of visits back to the shop (its a new bike) they finally said he needs a a clamp that works with alankey instead of quick release.

They got him one and still the same issue. When we ride Oak Valley, he stops roughly 2/3 times to lift his seat up again.

Edit, spelling

are you sure the post is a 30.9? What brand?

That was also a thought I had, measured it with a vernier calliper and is the right diameter. It slips in and out *very* easily though in the seat tube. Has a horrible titan seatpost with pretty thick anodizing on it.

I did buy the bike 2nd hand though and it came with that nasty post, might be time for another one.

If you sand it down it will make the diameter smaller. BAD idea.

I was thinking more along the lines of using a fairly rough paper to just chew up a little anodizing on the inserted part, but point taken.

Yeah, I'd say that the QC on that may not be the best, so it may deform JUST enough to make it slip...

Try and see if you can get it to work with removing the anodizing though, just as an exercise. May work. And don't be afraid to tighten it...

oh - another thing - how far out of the seat tube was the post when you bought it? Just thinking the tube may have deformed a little...

It was a little further in when I bought it, still quite a bit of post left in the frame when I clamp it though. Might just be that its deformed like you said.

How much space you got around the seatpost before tightening the clamp?... enough to fit a shim?

Hmm never thought about that. Will check and see if I can shim it a little, even if its with a layer or two of tinfoil!

Else cut a coke can and make a shim

If the seat post is round, use two clamps

- one on the frame

- one on the seat post

the one on the seat post will rest on the clamp that comes on the frame.

you need to be creative and get one size smaller that fits the frame - the small lip inside the clamp also need to be sand away in order that the full inside of the clamp makes contact with the seat post.

This really works like a charm

I've had some success with paper used as shim. My post is elliptical and uses an M5 Allencap screw. The long and short of my permanent fix was to make a new clamp. (I'm in the Engineering game, sorry not wanting to drop name). Your round tube will only benefit with shim. Your sandpaper option has plenty merit but need to be used as a last resort and be sure to tighten it in the same place/height every time. The diameter will surely wear as the Carbon can only take so much.

you can also join the hub's biggest loser comp over the next few weeks

alternatively this might work (its worked well for me on my old frame)
