on expresso, must be a true story.  those people KNOW everything

will probably also make a shimano 9 speed chain last forever on a XX1 setup

Tried that while camping once. Didn't end well. Was a long walk home with jammed up drivetrain. Every grain of sand sticks to the chain and soon becomes like a big fat slug

Have used spray n cook in emergency. Very good chain lube but overspray is a problem and can be messy. It's high quality lube suitable for high temperature.

Also try casida food grade spray on lube

Have stopped at a garage during a ride to scrounge a few drops of oil from empty oil cans before. Motor oil probably a better chain lube than anything else in a pinch and its ubiquitous.

What is it with these strings? Or is it Friday in December?

I have an amazing suggestion.

How about using this new fangled stuff called chain lube on chains, or is that a revolutionary idea?

You might be on to something there....

Use dipstick oil for an emergency lube.

I thought it was about what do you do when you're out there and suddenly realise you left the chain lube at home....and your chain is screeching for attention.

I prefer to use smooth peanut butter on my chain. Sure there's a bit of chain suck but it's biodegradable and if I put too much on I can just lick it off. Or something.

did you see what that chain looked like they had on expresso this morning???? it was nearly rusted solid! I'm now a firm believer in spray and cook. I mean...to make a chain like that work sweetly again!  I will however only use it should my chain also land up looking like that.
