The poopshoot pain becomes part of the fun. If you don't have pain when finishing a ride, you didn't try hard enough

Poopshoot pain?!?!?!.......please have your Support Ischeal Tuberosity (SIT) equipment (aka saddle) inspected by a professional. A crappy saddle can spoil an excellent bike and awesome ride.....broken saddle even worse......

......or just apply wallops of Vaseline and go gently.

Welcome,

Check your ego at the door as its going to take a pounding. And you wallet will empty as fast as your ego is trodden on.

In the immortal words of a 2 x TdF Champion, Greg le Mond (you will start to learn all these names and read books about them as well):

"It never stops hurting - you just go faster"

Great post.

FWIW and to give you some encouragement:

Almost 18 years ago i invested in a road bike after riding an MTB for a bit.

I brought it home in the back seat of the car and like all cyclists decided to go for a ride on my new machine.

On a warm January afternoon (not unlike yesterday) in Jhb. Plus 34 centigrade at 4 pm.

I pumped the tires up to 4 bar (Cause thats what I did with my MTB slicks) and proudly rode out the gate of my house only to nearly expire on the first uphill - looking furiously down to see what sort of gears I was in (i was of course in the lightest). I got through that and rode up Main road in Bryanston, very proud of my new machine.

At about 3 km in i rode over the highway bridge, hit an expansion gap and flatted both tires.

So there I was with bike broken after 3 km of the maiden voyage.

And there was no way home other than pushing.

Had to walk home very forlorn. I ended up changing the tires and buying a floor pump to boot and also learning that road tires run considerably harder.

So you did pretty well in comparison mate

I like dales comment...espresso sounds good...when on the beachfront stop off at the coffee guys or milky lane below joe cools...reward yourself...its hard work ;)

A trick i learnt quickly is dont try keep up with anyone riding faster than you...just ride at your pace.

the beachfront is great place to start...it has hills (not really) but when starting out they feel like hills...Umhlanga will seem so far away...but i am sure we will see you on the road soon.

I have a Spez Phenom. It's fine for short rides, but I do get some butt pain on longer rides. I like it though, makes me feel as if I've worked hard

And remember, you always upgrading, parts, components, bikes etc. for safety reasons, so that honey I can get home safely to you and the kids, it is an improved much safer version, part, components, kit etc.

You hate to spend the money, but you have your priorities straight.

So I went out today and had a bike service at Urban Cycles (those guys really do a seriously good job of helping out newbies like myself.)

Decided I am cycling the 13,6km home. start Strava as I leave, head out, all going well.

4km in, puncture, back wheel. oh well, it happens I think. Fortunately I blew out right next to a petrol station so I'm smiling. Punctured tube removed and new tube in, I hit it to 100 psi and the garage pump and I'm on the road again.

Going well, even the bum pain isn't too bad, Actually feel incredibly comfortable on the bike.

7km in, puncture, front wheel. A few non PG words escape my lips. Oh well, nice grassy verge so I set about patching this puncture as my stock of spare tubes is depleted. I mean really, 2 punctures on a 13km ride?

puncture fixed and I'm off again. Get home. I'm tired and sweating like I am holding a  hamburger at a vegetarian rally. Huge grin on my face.

Go into Strava. Oops, Strava crashed so my entire ride is a straight line.

Sigh.

Thinking my punctures might be due to the tyres I am running. (and some seriously bad luck lol)

Lungs and legs didn't feel like they were going to spontaneously combust though so I count that as a win.

Oh man I loved that line, haha.

I can definitely sympathize on the punctures, last year's 947 I went through 3 tubes in 11.7km and that was the end of my race, sometimes it's just not your day.

Planning on doing the half Shova this year. thinking I should be fit enough to delay the dying part until the end of the 63 km by then. But that is only in October so I have plenty of time.

You seem to be getting too many punctures. I'm  not sure whether the problem lies with your tyre, tube or tyre/tube combo.

It might also be that you're riding over too much road debris.

I don't buy the cheapest tubes (or the most expensive) and when I get more than one puncture in a month, I take a very long hard look at my tyres.

Try and cut down on the punctures and you'll enjoy your ride more!

Honestly thinking its my tyres. Innova brand but no model on them. literally just says Innova, then in another spot has the pressures listed and in a third spot the size of them (23c). Think I might splurge on some Gatorskins or something. should stop all this deflating of my fun times.
